Christine Atallah and the Bassalindos

World hipsters with pop power and jazz cool

About Me

Christine Atallah and the Bassalindos are a Canadian band out of Montreal. Their music is a cosmopolitan blend of East and West. Its multilingual world music, with Latin and Arabic elements as well as nuances of jazz. The music has been described as: Rhythmic, exotic and sexy music- intelligent and acoustic; with sensitive and stirring lyrics, melodies and arrangements.

"A bewitching pop world diva. Natural and unpretentious. A great joy to behold onstage." Artists Quarterly

"Even if you don't speak any of the five languages that the sensuous-voiced Christine Atallah sings on this magical, multi-ethnic kaleidoscope of a collection, you'll find yourself seduced as Atallah and her band sizzle, groove, and sway with a mix of unique Arabic, Latin, and jazz flavors." My Interests

Music:

Band Website: bassalindos.com
Band Members: Christine Atallah- lead vocalist
Danny McLaughlin-acoustic and electric guitars
François Lalonde- acoustic and electric bass
Firas Haddad- Oud, arabic, latin and african percussion and vocals
Mathieu Tessier-drums
Patti Payne- back vocals
Diana Dorval- back vocals

Influences: All great acoustic world and jazz music...Christine and Danny are both classically trained musicians and did that early on... Francois and Mathieu are also great jazz players. Firas came from Syria, and has broad influences from the region. Diana sings in a Gospel Choir and Patti plays too many instruments and has her own album out with the group Blue Dance. Early on Christine listened to everything from Prince (whom she is nuts about) to Mozart and everything in between. Her voice has been likened to Kate Bush with sexy shades of Sade... Christine can still belt out great arias when she is not melting the crowds with her sensual world pop.
Sounds Like: Shakira, Souad Massi, Pink Martini, Diana Krall if she was Lebanese, Gypsy Kings with a jazzy feel and some Latino mixed in. A georgeous mixture!
Record Label: Bolero Records
Type of Label: Indie
