About Me
I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 !
I grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where I started playing guitar at age nine. I had a beaten-up classical guitar that I got from my next door neighbor's father as they were moving away. Well, actually I bugged them to give it to me until finally they said, "Just take it!" It only had two strings, but it made a noise. Once I started playing I couldn't stop.Growing up in Richmond gave me the pleasure of getting to meet and play with several great musicians, John Small and Chris Williams being two of my favorites. I've known and played with these guys since the early 90's. We even formed a band together....well, the band didn't last but the friendship did...I moved to Nashville in 1994. I felt like expanding my horizons, to put myself in more difficult situations and see if I could hold my own. The music scene in Nashville was outstanding. There are so many great guitar players there, keeping me on my toes. I did studio sessions, local gigs and toured playing different styles of guitar. One night while I was playing Country music in South Dakota, the singer challenged the audience. He said, "If anybody brings something to the stage and Brian can't play guitar with it, he'll buy you a drink!" I played with a fork, a shoe, a bar menu, a chair, and a cowboy hat. Nothing could prepare me for what was coming next (not even the free drinks) This rough looking biker who'd been standing at the front of the stage laughing, said, "I got something for you to play with" and he pulled out his glass eye. "uurrrggghhh!!!!" I said "OK, but you've got to wash it first!" His response was "Cool, but do me a favor, don't scratch the pupil" I played a solo with an eyeball while the pupil stared back at me . . . . Really freaky!!!Sitting in with the Pat McGee Band when our schedules coincided, was how I started with them. Later the band asked me to record some guitar on their CD, Shine. Not long after that in 2000 I moved to Los Angeles and did two west coast tours with them. Then, in 2001 Pat asked me to play on the Craig Kilborn show, after that he asked me to join. I've been touring with them ever since. Funny... I had to move to the west coast to get a gig with my favorite east coast band!!!Aside from the Pat McGee Band, I've recorded two guitar instrumental CD's. They are a combination of all the styles I have learned and bring to the PMB table.Music is about emotion to me. It's also about playing back to the people, because the music is always bigger than me. When you play, it flows through you and hopefully brings joy and understanding to people. I get to express myself without saying a word. I love to make sounds that move people, I like playing good songs. The guitar is constantly challenging me, giving me something to work on. I like the power of the instrument, the physical contact of my fingers on the strings, the responsiveness... playing hard it sounds aggressive and powerful, then backing it off for it to sound sweet or sorrowful.
Music is something you never master, it masters you - if you're lucky!I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
