DARKWAVE RECORDS is part of a three pronged company known as Darkwave. Alongside Darkwave records is the highly successful Darkwave Art & Design and the latest in darkwave clothing.
Darkwave Records is a result of a lack of inspiring dark music. Darkwave Art has always been inspired by dark music and always heavily involved with it but could never quite find the right mix of dark, suicidal, horrifying, atmospheric, fear inspiring and spine chilling music. At the moment no one is signed to Darkwave Records but that, we hope, will change in the very near future with talks going ahead with two, as yet to be announced bands.
A little history regarding the founder Matt Vickerstaff, know for his wild antics and great love for music Matt has been working in the music industry since 1999 when Darkwave art saw its first official release on Nightbreed Records working with Goth cult act Midnight Configuration. Since then Darkwaveart worked with most of the active bands on Nightbreed and also worked very closely with Earache Records eventually joining the team for 2 years as full time position of Production Manager, along side working with all the Earache roster Matt was involved in everything from getting Earache tape made to working with bands on concepts, advertising, pressing Cd's, LP, special editions including the plastic booklet for Mortiis. All this came to an end when Matt was offered a position at Kerrang! magazine as Designer, only a short time was spent with Kerrang! and a happy one it was but due to the extra attention on Darkwaveart and Matts skills there had to be a choice and it was Darkwavert, the dream and the original concept. Current work has seen Matt working with UK Doom legends My Dying Bride and Scotish noise mongers Mendeed with more interesting and high profile projects including work with TV and press.
For those thinking they will get advance payments, digi packs and stickers and worldwide fame then don't bother getting in touch. This is simply an experimental label, concerned with releasing a c.d. of 10 copies in hand made boxes rather than 1000 poster packs. Eventually we hope to sign artists and bands that we can work with to create a label thats exciting to join, a home to one off projects and experimentation.
So what kind of music do we want. Anything, as long as its dark. Black Metal to Drum&Bass. Metal, Thrash, Acoustic, experimental, noise industrial, folk, jazz. The list of pigeon holes goes on.
A friend request does not mean that you are getting a listen, you need to work on getting our attention, if you want to work with Darkwaveart you have to pass the first test, communicate with us, send a message, tell us why we should bother with your music.
So lets see what ripples we can make in the world of music.
