About Me
Remember the days when DJ’s played for a crowd and were blessed with the inimitable ability to rock a floor and put hands in the air by simply reading and feeding off the energy and vibe of a room? When DJ’s weren’t constrained by genre, style or ego, and moving feet and forging smiles were their sole objectives? Remember when they used to smile themselves?! Well, lament no further because if you’ve had the pleasure of catching a set from Melbourne mover and shaker Nato recently, then you’ll be more than aware that those Halcyon times and rare qualities haven’t vanished for good. Indeed, for as long as Nato spins and grins, thankfully they never will …A DJ for over a decade, Nato has not only witnessed dance music culture’s rise to fame and acclaim in Australia, he’s been a consistently proactive and integral part of it. From supporting the likes of internationals Axwell, Tom Novy, Moguai, Tonite Only, Nic Fanciulli, Yousef, 2 Many Dj’s and Stacy Kidd; to his local support of the biggest acts in Australia including Kid Kenobi, Mark Dynamix, Goodwill, Grant Smille and John Course; to his residencies at agenda-setting clubbing institutions like Room680, Prince Of Wales, Q-Bar, 161, Metro, Redheads, and Saratoga (to name but a few); and then to top shelf festivals and parties like Summadayze, Sunshine People, Renaissance, Tribeadelic, Earthcore and Glam … Nato has rocked the lot and sent hordes of happy hedonists into overdrive with his blend of spot-on track selection, velvet skills and renowned passion.Furthermore, his upfront tastes and musical prowess have afforded Nato trips interstate to satisfy the floors on the Gold Coast and Byron Bay (at Elsewhere Nightclub and CMOOG, respectively) and have ultimately seen him achieve goals and earn experiences that many DJ’s, professional and aspiring, can merely contemplate gleaning – including Musical Directorship of fashion parades for leading design houses like M1-11, and even gigs at the world famous Koh Phang Ngang ‘Full Moon Party’ and ‘Back Yard Club’ in downtown Thailand. And then, of course, there’s his ongoing weekly KissFM radio show, too …However, to describe Nato as merely a ‘DJ’ is to misinterpret his industry-wide participation and significant skills in other areas: namely those within the studio, and deep inside the cutthroat world of event organisation and promotion …On the production front, Nato’s inaugural studio remix ‘Alive In Stereo’ (2002) was auspiciously deemed worthy of ‘Single of the Week’ status by Australian street press guru, Inpress’ Andrew Mast. But this was just the beginning of much bigger, more exciting studio forays … In 2006, growing increasingly restless to unleash his unique sounds, beats and vibes, Nato did what many only dream of: he forged his own record label ‘Tornato Music’. With an ever-increasing roster of artists already associated with the label, and support from some of the biggest names in dance, perhaps Tornato Music’s most exciting production project is that of My Little Pony. This production outfit consists of label founder Nato and studio partner Richard Pike. My Little Pony’s first track, a re-mix project of an on the 1’s and 2’s track saw it chart at No.1 on the Rhythm and Soul charts – the most highly regarded record store in Australia and as high as No.8 on the Kissfm Australian charts. Their second release, an original project “Spread the Word†peaked at No.6 on the Kissfm Australian charts in its first week of release and rocketed up the Juno UK electro charts peaking at No.31. Testament to the label and My Little Pony’s global appeal their sales and the labels have covered territories including Japan, USA, UK,Latvia, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, Italy, Spain, Germany, Brazil, France, Sth Korea, Australia, Sth Africa, Poland and Canada. When he’s not spinning or writing music, Nato works his ass off running and promoting it. To this end, there’s little doubt that on the event and promotion side of things, Nato’s influence on Melbourne’s clubbing landscape has not only been widespread, it’s been well crafted and more than well received. From weekly club nights at 161 to his involvement with Room680’s nationally revered ‘Full House’ parties, to his own event production company, Tornato Productions which co-produces all Ministry of Sound events in Melbourne, has put on over 13 internationals in the last 2 years and has also co-produced parties for brands such as Kink, Vinyl Pusher and Renaissance… Nato knows how to run a professional party and has earned a reputation as one of the scene’s finest promotion purveyors and cleverest operators.Down to earth, relaxed, and happy to be anywhere provided the tunes are pumping, the asses are shaking and the beer is cold; Nato lives and breathes dance music culture and above all else, is a friendly and accommodating guy – an all too rare combination of qualities in today’s increasingly aloof DJ fraternity, worldwide. But whether he’s stepping into a main room booth to strap on his cans and rock the roof off it … writing and pushing his own quality House sounds … or running some of Melbourne’s biggest and best parties … these lofty heights don’t change a thing about Nato. Except, of course, that his trademark grin doubles in size!INTERNATIONALS NATO HAS SUPPORTED OVER THE LAST YEAR INCLUDE:
