Originally I started off as a pianist; for my 11th birthday, my father bought me a tiny keyboard with a two octave range. This keyboard taught me not only Jingle Bells, but also taught me how to read both bass and treble clef. I then moved on to more advanced material, like "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay", Rhinestone Cowboy, Closer To Home (Grand Funk Railroad), Stairway To Heaven, the Entertainer, Magic Carpet Ride and Proud Mary.
I picked up the bass a year later and stuck with that since; also learning guitar and drums along the way. My first band, which consisted of me on bass, my brother on guitar and some kid on accordian, made our mark playing birthday parties and bar mitzvahs. As I entered my early teens I found myself getting more into Zeppelin, Rush, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Jeff Beck and Cream.
At some point, me and my bro and some drummer dude decided to head west to get in on the west coast explosion that had bands like Quiet Riot and Van Halen at the Vanguard of a new metal scene. Well, our little ship sunk; we basically lived on the streets and did what we had to do to get by. Some how or other, I ended up in U.S. Army Recon, serving one tour with the 3rd Inf Division, and then another two years with the 1/9 Cav Division.
After the military, I moved to Los Angeles where I've performed live and recorded with dozens of bands and artists. I currently play with local rock legends In From Zero. The group played a string of shows throughout the L.A. area and released a self-titled debut in 2005. You can find out more about IFZ and hear some of our music at:
infromzero.com. The band is currently in the studio working on their second CD and a follow-up video.
You can also visit my website carldemarco.net to listen to my own compositions and view other recording projects I've been involved in.
I'm always interested in checking out other musical projects that are in the style of my influences. I play Fender and Yamaha, 4 and 5 string basses through an SWR rig. Thanks for stopping by!
