Metus Mortuus

Experimental, dark ambient from Trondheim, Norway

About Me

The current sound of Metus Mortuus is a hybrid of ambient, darkwave, Noise, neo-classical, industrial as well as experimental areas of metal. One of the most distinguishing features of Metus Mortuus is a commitment to figurative samples and concepts inspired by philosophy and psychology.Metus Mortuus was originally called "Thanatos", and started polluting the atmosphere in the early nineties, using lousy equipment and lousy programs. During the summer of 1997 major upgrades were done, and the present sound of Metus Mortuus, started taking shape. Following a tragic HD-crash, more powerful equipment was installed, and in the autumn of '98, the making of the first full-length CD started; "The Domain of Neptune". In October '99 I decided the CD was finished. It was released as a professionally printed CD-r, and the song "Remoteness of Insanity" was the first official release from Metus Mortuus, appearing on "The ringworm compilation", released by Tinman Records (TIN015) in 1999. After releasing the CD through mp3.com (which soon went down the drain), work on the second full-length CD started; "The Peculiar Calmness of Anxiety". A record deal was secured, but unfortunately, before the CD was printed, the company went bankrupt. Just after the record deal want bad, I found myself submerged in work and the latter couple of years, I haven't had time to either pursue new publishing options, nor create new music (with the exception of a couple of movie sound tracks). Launching some of my old material on MySpace might however be a step in the right direction, so who knows what will happen next...
