Placebo are Brian Molko (vocals & guitar), Stefan Olsdal (guitar, bass & keyboards) and Steve Hewitt (drums).
It all started when Stefan (an old school friend of Brian) attended one of Brian's small gigs, where he played with Steve. Amazed by Brian's voice, Stefan immediately decided that it would be a great idea to form a band (at the time Stefan was studying guitar at the Musicians Institute). While briefly know as Ashtray Heart, the band quickly settled on the name Placebo.
At the time, Steve was involved in a band called Breed, and because of his conflicting commitments with Breed, he was replaced in Placebo by a Swedish drummer called Robert Schultzberg. Robert was later asked to leave Placebo on the way to a rehearsal for The White Room as the atmosphere within the band had got to a point where it was no longer bearable. Steve then permanently re-joined Placebo in 1996 and then went on to release a series of 5 albums and 1 singles album including tracks from 1996-2004.
