About Me
About me...The style of Gilead7 is difficult to identify, and can be said to be "unpredictable." The post era boom bap hip-hop roots are a foundation on which he builds trip-hop, drum and bass, and electronic works he either rhymes to or produces. His spoken word is Shamanistic and daring; it is dark, thought provoking, and mystical. Listening to a poetic piece by Gilead7 is the entering into an alternate reality where church icons breakdance in the sun, spaceships hover inches above the height of the highest human, and God is everything that exists in the universe.Gilead7 is an unconquerable and valuable piece endlessly advancing in the chess game of the Chicago independent hip-hop scene. Beginning in the fall of 98, he appeared and began to write rhymes, eventually culminating in his first album, "Explosions," released in the winter of 1999. In 2001, Gilead gained inner-city attention with the "The Calm EP," which he self-produced and recorded. This notoriety increased with the release of the collective EP "Reflections" in 2001, the "Invincible" single in 2002, and "Stories of Sorcery" in 2003.The chess piece is sweeping the board...In the fall of 2003, Chicago indie label ReServed Records asked Gilead7 to join and work on an album, and "The Darkroom" was created. Released in 2005. it captures production from Maker of Glue/Galapagos4, 5th Element (Wu-Tang, All natural), Thaione Davis, Deftone, Two 1, Gilead himself and others. MCs who graced it were Listener of Mush Records, Lord 360 (heard on releases by The Opus), Malakh, etc. It is a sonic collage unlike anything Gilead had put his voice to before, ranging from boom-bap to folk, celtic, trip-hop, and drum and bass. Some have even called it a hip-hop classic, a thing which its national and overseas distribution attests to.Gilead7 has been silent since speaking volumes of pitch black. He will continue this journey into darkness with the recently finished Death Penalty Shots, an EP collection of artistic and conceptual, yet fierce and witty battle raps recited over standard to experimental instrumentals. The record only features one vocal guest appearance by Chicago’s Elevation of Fordafresh Records, allowing the verbal mastery and pioneering of Gilead7 to shine unhindered. Production was handled by the genius musicianship of Switzerland’s Ruedi Snare, the soulful sharpness of Chicago’s Sean the Pawn, the avant garde bleakness of Iceland’s Beatmakintroopa, and the evil, Celtic-esque, and mystically dark signature sounds of Gilead7. To be released in late May of 2007, this short record will be distributed in the U.S. through Independent Distribution Collective (IDC), in Canada through Sonic Unyon, in Japan through Ultra Vybe, and online through IDC. Abandon thoughts of peace and slay your way to the top of hip-hop success with Gilead7’s Death Penalty Shots. COMING SOON!OUT NOW....
