About Me

This profile was edited with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.4
I've always just sang quietly to myself, but was convinced by my family and friends to do more with my singing. My brother (the mind and voice of EPOK), got me into it by getting me to sing on some of his tunes, i've also done a couple of gigs with him. I then decided to learn to play the guitar (still am!) i played him one of my riffs, ha ha, and he wanted to record it! and that was the start of Eidas Mai. I hope you enjoy my tunes. Thanks for listening. xxHere is a review from The Sunday Experience:Eidas Mai 'Where to begin' (the Great Pop Supplement). Stupidly good and one to file loosely alongside that recent gem like release by Lucie Wren for Sacred Harp. Eidas Mai are brother and sister (hold with your White Stripes comparisons) Sadie and Ben Warner. Word has it that Ben (of EPOK fame - see www.myspace.com/soundofepok - another ensemble who are part of the Drone Note collective - see Movement, The Box Deluxe) encouraged younger sister Sadie who was often heard to be quietly singing to herself in various shadowy corners of the family home at strange hours of the day when most normal folk slept to add her tender vocals to his compositions. It soon became apparent that there was something unique at large. Hearing 'Where to begin' for the first time you are indeed struck by the vocal - soft, rich and sensual yet ghostly almost fleeting in texture - it is both alluring and intoxicating filling the listening space with a sense of unnerving enchantment the effect brought to bear all the more by the double tracked vocals. As with the aforementioned Lucie Wren, Sadie's vocal recalls that of Heather Duby in that the harmonies appear natural, unforced and fulsome to an extent that they are able to navigate their way without the need for accompaniment to flesh them out. For his part Ben Warner has fully recognised such and instead of seeking to stretch his little sis applies an equally spectral melodic garland to the proceedings that seductively tip toes its way across the grooves with some succulent late TV theme like accents moe commonly associated with Edwin Astley ('Randall and Hopkirk', 'Champions' et al). Described by GPS as Broadcast crossed wired with the Incredible String Band which I'd have to admit is a pretty good summation of what you get except better to replace ISB with the Sandy Denny led Fairport Convention with Birmingham's finest lessened of their library music effects and equipped with a shimmering array of down tempo late night sophistication. Quite perfect if you ask me. Flip over the disc for the softly tendered rustic acoustics of 'Fly Away' - one of those rare occasions of a track actually seeking to romance you from the hi-fi turntable and as far as reference points go something that would not look out of place on either the criminally overlooked 'Death to Quickspace' set from 2000 or the early back catalogue of ex Ultrasound-er Richard Green's the Somatics - and with that something that literally leaves you in jaw dropped awe. Again limited to a ridiculous pressing of just 250 handsomely packaged seven inch wax platters. Go to www.myspace.com/eidasmai to hear the absolutely numbingly bleakly beautiful 'Someone' - think of a clipped of her emotions and near the edge Mary Hopkins in some bizarrely aching death rattling rodeo fusing distraught folk accents with a tear jerking pre climatic spaghetti western curtain closer scripted by Morricone. For now though single of the missive and certainly a duo to keep a careful eye on in the coming months. www.greatpopsupplement.com
