The Basement State

Welcome To Florida

About Me

- The Basement State is a Tri-Monthly Hip Hop event, which takes place the 1st, 2nd & 3rd wednesday of every month, at Roxanne's in Ft. Lauderdale (3148 NE 12th Avenue). The event features local and national Hip Hop acts from all spectrums of the culture. Every week you can catch DJs spinning the best in old school, new school, underground, indie, etc. (its all just Hip Hop to me), as well as, live graffiti, MC & B-Boy Cyphers, Hip Hop flicks on the TV, Spades, Dominoes, tons of free giveaways, Hip Hop trivia, 2 4 1 Heinekens, etc. etc.
We welcome all MCs, DJs, Graf Artists, B-Boys, Beat Boxers, Producers, Poets, Crate Diggers, Record Label Owners, Exciters, Hip Hop enthusiasts, Musicians, Activists, etc. to come attend, promote, network, hang out, enjoy yourselves, etc. Thats what we're here for, this is your home.
If you are an Artists, Group, Live Act, DJ, Writer, etc. interested in getting booked at The Basement State weekly please hit us up through myspace, at [email protected] or in person on wednesdays and we WILL get back to you. We are always looking for new performers, local and out-of-state. Please do not just show up to the spot with a 15 minute show CD insisting that we let you on cause you are doper than all the other acts playing. I'm sure you are but thats not how it works homie!
Last but not least. The Basement State (in conjunction with Lexicon Productions), as we stated previously, is not exactly a weekly. We handle the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Wednesdays (sometimes 4th when there's 5 weds. in a month) of every month @ Roxanne's (3148 NE 12th Avenue). The last wednesday of the month is handled by DJ Trippin' who throws a monthly party called The Breaks, which is a fine event. WE, at The Basement State, however spend our last wednesday of the month at THE ART OF MOVING BUTTS, located in downtown Ft. Lauderdale at The Poorhouse. Another fine location and another quality event. You can find both events in our top 24.
Thanks and we hope to see you soon.......

The staff here at The Basement State feel very strongly about Florida. Here is an abridged version of our manifesto.....
Welcome to the The Basement State blog site. We are completely and absolutely dedicated to all things concerning Florida, and its varying myriad of ethnologies. Our goal is to be an all inclusive Florida information resource center for all cultural interests falling left of the dial. To document the undocumented, to create a cut-and-paste style chronicle of our states rich, cultural history; past, present and future. If Maggotron's playing an unadvertised foam party at a 24-hour laundrymat, we're gonna let you know. If Jeb Bush secretly exumes the body of Ronnie Van Zant to steal the Neil Young shirt he was supposedly burried in, we're gonna tell you about it. If Rick Ross recorded a karaoke version of Tom Petty's "American Girl" at an indoor flea market in Liberty City, we're gonna play it for you.
