The Velaslavasay Panorama

Located in the West Adams Historic District of Los Angeles, The Velaslavasay Panorama presents to the public an art form that dates back to the early 19th century. A panorama encircles the spectator with a 360-degree painting of a continuous scene, affording the viewer an opportunity to experience a complete sensory phenomenon. As the upcoming panoramic exhibition and interior theatre restoration is currently in progress, the garden exhibits are open by appointment only. Based on this curious history and it’s profound influence on the entertainment industry, it seems absolutely appropriate that the Velaslavasay Panorama should find a new home in the Union Theatre, one of Los Angeles' historic picture houses.The theatre, built in 1921, is one of the earliest built in the city solely for the showing of motion pictures. Throughout its long life the Union has thrived as a venue for many disparate enterprises, most recently a church. The Velaslavasay Panorama is in the process of refurbishing this Deco jewel, which when finished will host events in its theatre area as well as house the magnificent 360-degree sensory wonder, The Effulgence of the North. The Velaslavasay Panorama is proud to present its visual offerings in this most lovely vintage theatre.
