About Me

I come from a long line of women artists on both sides of my family. Creativity and individual thought is inherent in my nature. Art in all of its various forms has been a focal point and tool I used to define myself. I began with drawing picture books as a toddler, writing and directing plays in elementary school, experimenting with photography as a teenager and finally becoming a professional photographer as an adult. It was in my early teens that I came to realize the power art possesses. A Cannon AE-1 manual camera which I bought at a pawnshop for $100 became my means of escaping and expressing the turmoil associated with my transforming into a young adult. My camera was my voice when words failed me. It allowed me to communicate my intense and often confusing adolescent emotions without a single word and to re-connect and discover a deeper appreciation in life. Photography combined my feelings of anger, frustration, sadness, fear and happiness with my child like imagination and helped me capture the complexities of my reality and the world I belonged to.I attribute my vision of the world’s beauty and the desire to create from my birth in Hawai`i and to those who have guided me along the way. Not all lessons are easy, but it was the most challenging ones that impacted my view of the world. Life and all of its forms, like my work, is a forever changing, constantly moving, emotionally charged force consisting of rare beauty and underlining messages, which I am honored to express. My work is a composition of those moments that for the most part go un-noticed. Those moments we sometimes wish to forget, those moments that make us smile in sadness or joy, those moments that remind us we are human, that make us stop in our tracks and give us a deeper appreciation for being alive. These moments are found in all the beauty and sorrow of our humanity and in nature. My work captures truth beyond the façade. The camera can capture what the eye often misses or wishes to ignore. This year, I plan to expand my journey and vision through various cities and countries and to expand my portfolio and life experience. I intend to share these endless images with the world and to continue to inspire and provoke thought from the “Un-noticed Moment”.
