Formed in the winter of 2003 in New Paltz, NY, The Trapps are an adventurous, American Rock and Roll Band led by Sean Schenker (songwriter, lead vocals, guitar), Warren Gold (lead guitar, slide guitar), and Jason Sarubbi (backing vocals, bass).
The Trapps band name derives from a particular area of the Shawangunk Mountain Range outside of New Paltz, NY a world-renowned spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Rock Climbing can't even be conceived without rock. Mountains are formed by the collision of the Earth's crust. Symbolically this represents the different musical influences uniting the band. The Trapps = Solid Rock.
Aligning their sound with the bluesy jam-rock tradition of southern favorites like the Black Crowes, while reaching deep into areas of musical challenge like Neil Young, The Trapps fuse concise songwriting with an ability to freely explore the boundaries of song, sound and improvisation. The mixture results in a finely balanced presentation of modern pop sensibility with an ability to jam within a structure - always benefiting the presentation of "the song" itself.
The Trapps have recently released a self-produced, full-length CD titled "Good Luck or Goodbye?" The new CD pulses with an extremely diverse catalogue of songs showcasing the bands strong lyrical content & songwriting, wailing guitar solos & solid musical interplay. "Good Luck or Goodbye?" has already started to gain serious industry attention. Standout singles "Alright Now", "I'm Through" & "Blood on our Hands" have received heavy radio play on several AAA stations along the East Coast. The new CD was voted #13 of the top 25 albums of 2006 by 100.1 FM WDST Radio Woodstock (NY) and voted #6 of the top ten albums of 2006 by esteemed music journalist John Barry of the Poughkeepsie Journal. "Alright Now" was also voted in the Top Ten Songs of 2004 by John Barry & the single recently landed on The 2006 Woodstock Film Festival Compilation CD. The song also won FIRST PRIZE for best song in the AAA/Alternative category in the 2006 International Acoustic Music Awards Song Contest. "Blood on our Hands" was also recently selected as a featured downloadable track on Neil Young's website Living With War. "I'm Through" won First Prize in the Relix Magazine June Jam-Off contest where the band will be a featured artist to watch in the magazine's upcoming June '07 issue & compilation CD.
The Trapps have shared the stage with Blues Traveler, appeared at Camp Bisco V and recently opened WDST's multi-band jam rock festival Mountain Jam 2006 along with Gov't Mule, Spearhead & My Morning Jacket. They recently performed at the 2006 CMJ Music Conference held in NYC as well. With their 100% commitment to honest Rock and Roll & the new CD "Good Luck or Goodbye?" The Trapps are simply destined for great things.
