He began singing and performing in Detroit Michigan as a solo artist, wooing crowds and building a name and fan base for himself. Richey wrote his first song and performed it at his Junior High School talent showcase. He won first place in the competition, while receiving an unending standing ovation. Richey also discovered his writing abilities composing fiction stories in English courses. When Richey began High School he formed his first singing group. He named the singing trio “The Quotations” with consisted of Ell Richey, Kevin Pitmen and Sheryl Long of Detroit. Richey realized this was not the chemistry he was seeking; ultimately Richey had to go back to the drawing board. In 1972 and 1974 Richey met Randy Davis and Danny Williams on individually basis and combined the two together to create a new singing trio. Richey knew from the start collectively this was the ideal vocal chemistry and writing team he envisioned for success, which began the legacy of Rick Ran & Dan.The next step Richey conquered was finding a manager to help their career by booking events and performing around the metro area. The group vastly took the Motor City by storm appearing on several local TV shows and performing local concerts; hit producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis of Flyte Tyme heard of the group’s success and traveled to Detroit to see the group perform. Jam & Lewis were extremely impressed and signed Rick, Ran & Dan as writers, producers and entertainers to Flyte Tyme Productions. In addition,Langston’s organization was one of the last groups signed personally by Ahmet Ertegun, the music-industry legend who founded Atlantic Records and went on to become one of the most dominant and important forces on the American-music landscape. This was the beginning and the opportunity for Ell Richey’s hit songwriting team to become one of the music industries top writers. The opportunities lead the team to work with many professional organizations, producers, entertainers, and major recording companies as: Atlantic Records, Virgin, CBS, Sony, A&M, Tabu, LaFace and many others. Succeeding the sales of over 500, 000 records for "After 7" first hit single “Kickin It” on album “Takin’ My Time” issuing Richey’s first gold record. After loosing member Randy, to a fatal accident, Richey’s team went on to work independently with various labels and artists.Langston Richey, Founder-CEO of RicaShay Entertainment Consulting Firm established in 1998 marked the peak of more than twenty years in the music Industry.
