Tell Me

About Me

The nucleus of Off The Bridge formed in 2001, when high school freshmen Alex Marans and Adam Soffer began playing every day after class. With an incomparable musical bond forming, their first show in 2004 was a victory at a statewide battle of the bands, placing them squarely on the map of East Coast artists to watch. After a hundred shows on bills of all sizes and sounds, the band decided to hit the studio with world-class drummer Greg Trabandt, former member of Furious Styles. The Long Hill Sessions was produced and engineered by accomplished multi-instrumentalist Paul Opalach, who contributed pedal steel guitar to the aboriginal reggae-rock closer "Breaking It Off". The three preceding tracks offer a glimpse into the musical palette of Marans and Soffer: the pop appeal of "Terminal," the neck-breaking funk of "Anomaly," and the introspective "Doubt" form a diverse yet unremittingly cohesive EP.With mastering by Alan Douches (Sufjan Stevens, Ben Folds), Off The Bridge's captivating sound has made its way onto both college and commercial radio. The future of the band is bright - studies at SUNY Purchase have led to a wider array of creative ideas in both songwriting and production, and a willingness to tour has proven the band's dedication. If there's one thing I love it's hearing something I've never heard before. The vocals are acrobatic and inventive, the bass is dense, rubbery and funky and the guitar cuts through like a jazz/reggae switchblade. It's like crossbreeding animals, sometimes it goes wrong and you end up with a five headed rabbit with no legs and then other times you get lucky and end up with a super-rabbit that can build its own hutch. Anyway, my point is you've really come up with something very original and it all works and is performed brilliantly. Congratulations, you have built your own hutch and installed a working jacuzzi.Craig Gilbert / New Haven Advocate Ya know how a lot of bands may have a sound, but their songs all sound the same? And that sucks? OtB have a distinct sound and, on this disc at least, it’s not same-old, same-old. “Terminal” starts out on a mellow flow, then ends and turns into a tight little funk groove as “Anomaly (The Shattered Grecian Urn)”. The following two tracks push their guitar-fronted, groove-based, highpitched vocals into unique areas (“Breaking It Off” bumps along with a shuffling, bastardized reggae beat).
