BIOGRAPHY

General J was born Ajay Nair on the 3rd of April 1991 in the heart of East London. He is the youngest child of Anitha Nair and his late father Radhakrishnan Nair. The three along with his elder sister, Jaina, resided in the London borough of Newham. The family led a happy and prosperous life, even owning their own business. Tragically, however Ajays dad passed away in the summer of ‘99, leaving his 8 year old son behind. Seven years on, the family has moved on, Jaina has recently got married and Anitha has remarried.

General began writing at the tender age of just 12. He was heavily influenced by UK garage and hip hop, his influences stem from his Indian roots to life experience and what he holds close to his heart. His love for music developed at an early stage in his life, he was focussed on music, when his peers were playing games. AJ was fascinated by music. Around the same time he started writing, he started to learn how to play the drums, in time his musical ability and poetic skill excelled to another level. By the time he reached year 9 he was involved in almost every type of instrumental lesson available to him, he learnt how to play guitar, bass and piano, this is how he got into the production side of music. He attended after school music classes for most of the week for sessions of 2-3 hours, the drive for music and success is what motivates him.

General has worked with various tutors and professionals who have sculpted and have helped AJ develop his musical and performance skills to a degree where AJ is confident in what he does. He has worked with the likes of Dizzee Rascals DJ and one of the founding members of Roll Deep, DJ Wonder. He has also worked with fame academy’s Audley Anderson and former sony-signed producer Tony Nwachukwu.

General is a consistent performer and takes pleasure from being on stage. He has performed on stages up and down the country, performing to audiences of thousands. He has opened for the likes of UK R’n’B artist, Nathan and has shared stages with acts such as East London’s N.A.S.T.Y Crew and 1xtra’s Twin B.

AJ is currently working on many projects and albums, he has produced six to date. Title’s include ‘Military Music’, ‘Sampled Remix’, ‘Sampled Beatz vol.1’, ‘Sampled Beatz vol.2’, ‘Let’s Get Grimey’ (which is available for purchase) and his debut album, ‘World War III’, which features vocals as well as production from the General.

General’s talents aren’t just musical, he is a confident graphic & web designer, everything on this page was designed by him. He has also discovered his ability to direct and produce film, his music videos, which have been on Channel U, were shot, directed and produced by the General himself. His dedication and will to learn is what separates him from other artists out there. He's an MC, Producer, DJ, Designer & Director all at the age of 16. All of his accomplishments to date are just the tip of the iceberg of what he has planned for the future. This is just the beginning for General, the best has yet to come.
