About Me

THANX TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED US AT THE 911!!! NEXT REUNION IN 6 YEARS!!!!***This may sound ridiculous, but this unique one-time SUMB reunion show was probably the local event I have been anticipating most for this year. Disbanded in 2000, they were already back then rock innovators, with a background in punk and thrash metal music. It would turn out back then that this would be just another step in their musical evolution as the guitarist later on founded moussevingt / Hal Flavin and the drummer changed to the keyboards in Chief Marts.I wondered if many people were thinking like me, and then I turned up shortly after 9pm, it didnt seem so. The concert room was still closes, and if you dismissed the musicians, there were probably only a dozen people there. Maybe thats the reason why we had to wait for another hour before John McAsskill opened the evening with their typical brand of ass rock. It must have been the first time I have seen them with their new drummer, and although he looked a bit like he had preferred to be at the Drum Event at the Rockhal, he also turned out to be the best drummer John McAsskill have had so far. At last they have someone who beats them along with tight rhythm. Apart from that, it was business as usual. After initial bass amp problems, they rocked with an extremely loud sound and also showed that in the last few months they had had time to write some new songs.Something Under My Bed were on next, and it was them who attracted the biggest crowd. There must have been about 50 people eager to see if these meanwhile adult people still knew how to play their arty noise rock with which they enchanted so many pubs at the end of the last millennium. Somehow they felt louder than back in their early days, probably because they made an evolution in their subsequent bands which allowed them to play a more contemporary sound. Still its funny: there you have Chris who later on played jazzy psyche rock with Chief Marts, and Sam who turned electro-pop with moussevingt and Hal Flavin, and today they were just being the rocknrollers they used to be in their youth. Magnificent memories arose as I watched this nostalgic one-time reunion show. Too bad for those who missed it.Now it was already getting late, people started to be tired and/or drunk, so Couchgrass still had enough people watching them, but it also seemed as if the attention span of the average concert goer started to diminish. At least so did mine. They also played many new songs, had finally a new guitarist who plays really good but needs to work at his stage acting, and a female friend of mine noticed how good their topless drummer was looking. Thats rocknroll for you.I cant actually remember when theCARPS started to play. It must have been close to 1am or even shortly after it, because I had the impression that after their first song they had to stop already because neighbours complained. Too bad, now that I finally caught them live, they had already to stop after one song. What I heard was groovy Seventies inspired rock music with terrific bass lines and a drummer who had a cool King Crimson shirt. What else do you need? This evening proved again that with a Kulturfabrik who seem to program only one interesting show per month, and a Rockhal that concentrates on the likes of Lionel Richie, Level 42 and Garou, its the pubs that will make our weekend worthwhile.
