About Me

Video: Pigmy Music: Oliver Hacke-Dusk (2002 Background Recs)
I have been a producer since 1999. In 2001 I released my first record on Trapez and started out DJing. I have been most influenced by music from the early Pentium period. In this time, people began to use their computers to create sounds alongside legacy outboard equipment. I still think some of the best electronic music has been done in those days. I do not frown at laptop music itself but I do not like randomness and people doing music only for the lifestyle, without having anything to say. I usually do not produce tool techno/house/minimal but try to maintain some form of narrativeness, without ignoring the functional obligations of Techno.
AS A DJ I do not only spin stuff that sounds like my own. I play a lot of different music, also the usual tool tracks and hits of course. However that also always depends on the location. If you see me in a big club, it will be more likely for me to play more functional. If the resident DJs raise hell in the warm-up, I sometimes cannot play deep stuff later. If your crowd is more used to a single kind of music, let me know beforehand. It is also helpful to know the time I am to play before I pack my recordbag. I often do not play track after track, I like to let tracks interfere with each other. See what Gabriel Ananda can answer to Chris Korda or what Portable has in common with Theo Parrish. In general, my philosophy of Djing is to project some temporal identity on the crowd which it feels comfortable with, to play with the referring notions such as sexyness, desolateness, aggression, hypnosis etc in a way which would make myself feel comfortable on the dancefloor.
I am a founding member of Particle_Riot which is a Duesseldorf-based artist collective organizing nightlife events with a strong emphasis on minimalist dance music and visuals. Daniel Fritschi from Level Records and me are the resident DJs usually supporting a live showcase of some musician we like.
