About Me

I began my calling as a teenager in my native Belgium by filling my bedroom walls with strange paintings. I left Belgium for the United States at the age of twenty-five. Within a couple of years, encouraged by the interest that people found in my work, I opened Naked Art, a gallery that focuses on fun and functional art. The detail oriented nature of my previous endeavors made working on a larger scale an interesting challenge. I use a mixture of media: various paints, pen, pencil, strips of paper thorn from everywhere - street posters, books or magazines - whatever feels right at the time. My characters used in the paintings come from sketches I do from people or books, magazines, advertising, found pictures. Believing that life is meant to be enjoyed, I creates work for "bon-vivants" featuring the small pleasures of life. Songs, people, everyday life are creative motivators. My goal is visual stimulation. Maybe it is due to my background in design. ..

My Interests

Due to lack of time, nothing much except making art, running the gallery and its website But when I can relax: friends, very long dinners, my little primavera, collecting wigs, making clothes, traveling and lately, running.

People with big hearts and small heads ..This profile was edited with Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5

Music:

Love french music, old and new because I can understand all the words right away. But also love a lot of latin, world and of course english music. Michel Polnareff is a tacky and unproductive genius.

Movies:

No time for movie going, lots of ifc and sundance while painting light switch plates on the couch. Every surreal type of movie by Jean Pierre Jeunet and influencees, long or short make me dream and tickle my creativity.

Television:

TV5, ifc, Sundance and all the movie channels. History, discovery and all the nerd channels too.

Books:

more french stuff here, my fav is Amelie Notomb, but open to good suggestions

Heroes:

people with humility, who are frank and for who "maybe" does not mean "no".

My Blog

Female boxing

Yesterday, David and I were talking about Aimee Man and how she is also into boxing. That reminded me that when I was 5, I saw this female boxing match on TV. The adversaries were naked from the waist...

Allergic to paint

About a year ago, I started getting what I called "sausage fingers syndrome", after many expensive tests, verdict was that I'm allergic to paint. It kind of took me a year to realize how strange that ...
