About Me

"You Must Be The Change You Want To See In This World" -Mahatma Gandhi-. Those that know me know that I am a man of the people. I am passionate about working in underpriviledged communities and guiding our youth on the path to understanding their own self-worth and gift to this world. For the past two years I have been living in Seattle, Washington. While there I helped start The Northshore Family Center. The Northshore Family Center is an informal community based center where families can find activities, support, resources and services to meet their needs and interests. Basically, we offered FREE Ell classes (English Language Learner), Parenting Classes, Art Classes, First Steps Program for Children, After-School Programs, A Clothing Exchange, Computer Lab, Tutoring Program, Cooking Classes, Spanish Classes, and a host of other community events.I also was a Reading Tutor at a local high school in Seattle (Garfield High School). I worked with students from grades 9-12 who were reading on levels that were well below their grade level. Most of the students that I worked with were reading on a 3rd to 5th grade reading level. Imagine trying to study for a Biology test or reading a History text and you read on a third grade level.Currently, I am living in Baltimore, MD. I just moved here in August. I moved to Baltimore to start a program focused around working with ex-offenders and their reentry back into society; along with developing a mentoring program for their children. While working in the prisons I have met a multitude of men and women that are incarcerated who have college degrees and/or owned their own business before they got incarcerated. What struck me during my first weeks of working is something that I knew, but rarely thought of, "this could easily be me". Most of the people that I have been working with were either in the wrong place at the wrong time or were helping friends when they needed their back. Be careful and don't take your liberty for granted, it can be taken away for the slightest infraction. What's Next? Well, currently I am working to become a professor of education. One of my goals is to educate the future educators; specifically in urban education. If I begin writing on that topic we will be here all night. Be safe family and turn your dreams into realities...
