I love sitting in my backyard on my swing chair, enjoying my garden, reading a book. I believe in organic gardening, mulching, not rototilling. I bow to the worms, the bees, the insects who contribute to the abundance of my garden harvest. I'm trying to adopt more of the tenets of the Slow Food & Slow Movement...preparing food with love and taking the time to truly savour present life. I take time to acknowledge where and how I got hurt as a small child and work to heal the effects of the traumas. I get to feel what I feel instead of what others needed me to feel. This in itself has been very healing. I love taking pictures of everyday life, then making slideshows and giving them away to those who were there with me. I get excited creating original works, whatever that may be at the time...cards, puppets, videos, food.I have been videotaping my children since my oldest son (now 23) was four months old. I started as a teenager using 8mm film then moved into Black and White photography in high school. This is where I met my husband...got to know him while developing photos and talking about the meaning of life...guess where Fraser got that quality! I started making video yearbooks from the time Fraser was four years old at playschool. Now I make sports DVD's for my sons' fastball and soccer teams. The DVD's are loaded with final games, special features like bloopers, player highlights, coach commentaries. Fully edited. I still have parents whose children were in my kids' classes tell me that they watch their kindergarten videos at least a couple times a year.My three children homeschooled for part of their school years. I believe parents can keep their children out of public school at least until the age of 14 with no formal schooling...just let your child follow their interests. A parent's job is to get out of their way and be helpful by finding and providing resources and experiences that help their child make sense of their world. My youngest son was out of public school from age 9 to 15 and he has had no trouble adapting or learning the curriculum when he decided he wanted to re-enter public school. I BELIEVE BILL GATES IS A SMART MAN. .. width="425" height="350" .... VAGINA IS A GOOD WORD! JUST ASK EVE ENSLER, CREATOR OF THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES.
I enjoy meeting people who thrive on being creative and original..those not afraid to look/be a little silly and have fun doing it. I like asking questions, hear what makes people tick, learn what's cutting edge for each person, how they grow, adapt to change, break the rules. I think everybody should call everybody else by their first names. All children get equal say, respect and rights just like the adults. Children should get to say what they think and tell adults what's wrong without fear of reprisal. My fave rock guitarist is Joe Satriani from San Francisco. I enjoy a huge crossection of music, depending on my moods. I lean toward progressive rock/jazz/fusion. I also LOVE Rufus Wainwright and his sister, Martha Wainwright, Ron Sexsmith, Jann Arden, Peter Gabriel, Paula Cole, Gino Vannelli, Sekoya, Gibonni, Marko Ramljak!!, Feist and world beat for shakin' it up. Violin in any form is great and some old favourite bands are Gentle Giant, Genesis, Kansas, PFM, CANO, FM. Harmonium, Kim Mitchell, King Crimson, Supertramp. I like opera even if I don't understand the language...Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion...anybody with a big powerful voice who sings from the heart. I grew up on the Carpenters, the Mamas & Papas, Cat Stevens, Wayne Newton, Barbra Streisand, Glen Campbell, Joan Baez, Carole King, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Buck Owens, Mel Torme. I even loved Steve Lawrence & Edie Gorme, Perry Como, John Hartford, Skylark, Tim Buckley, Gene Pitney...too many to fully list. I sang my little heart out at 9 years old to "Going to the Chapel" by the Dixie Cups! Being part of myspace has rejuvenated my love of music and especially progressive/rock...Hi Arcanoise!...and having access to Europe, and beyond, music has opened up a new world full of amazing musicians and singers. So much wonderful music to groove to from the past and present! I have always enjoyed listening to lesser known bands before they get famous, then I move on. I am not one to be with the masses. Smaller and meaningful describes my musical preferences. CHECK OUT THIS BAND BELOW THESE YOUNG PEOPLE ARE AMAZING...MANY OF THEM ARE STILL TEENS. WHAT A GREAT FUTURE THEY HAVE! AS A MOM WITH SONS, I CAN TRULY SAY I AM WILD ABOUT BOYS!! :-) I REALLY SEE A GREAT FUTURE FOR THIS YOUNG LADY....LIJIE...HAVE A LISTEN!
I enjoy foreign films and documentaries. Go Michael Moore! I like movies that help me think about life. I appreciate the look and pace of European movies...it takes its time and assumes we are smart and can figure out what's going on. I'm a sci-fier to some degree... Star Wars, of course! Apollo 13. Fantasy... Lord of the Rings. I like the occasional "girly movie" as my husband calls them! Okay, so I'm a sap for a good love story and some laughs with comedians like Robin Williams, Russell Peters, Jerry Seinfeld. I like Director Ron Howard... how he stretches himself, takes chances. I also like the oldies...the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers...big dance numbers movies. Trivia: Gary Sinise was born the day before me.
After using rabbit ears for the last six months, I bit the bullet and got cable tv...(we used to get free cable when my hubby worked for the cable company, but we are no longer beholden financially to the big corporation...thankfully! Freedom!) So now I freely indulge myself with "my boyfriend", George Stroumboulopoulos of "The Hour"...I LOVE THE CBC! (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation...Canada's national broadcaster). One of my all-time favourite Canadian shows was CBC's ON THE ROAD AGAIN with Wayne Rostad. He visited ordinary people leading interesting lives all over the country. I bow to Rick Mercer...THE RICK MERCER REPORT and THE HOUR's George Stroumboulopoulos...I understand he's part Ukrainian...some of my closest friends are Ukes...I make great perogies BTW! :-) JOIN MY "I CAN SPELL STROUMBOULOPOULOS" CLUB...(SEE MY GROUPS BELOW) The show (not sure what network it was aired on) Who's Line is It Anyway? is a hoot...such brilliant actors. Hail Wayne Brady! I am in favour of community access television and support both financially and spiritually, the Independent World Television Network which will soon air on the internet, THE REAL NEWS...www.therealnews.com
I'm behind the times with knowing what the current popular programs are. If I had what I consider good television it would be the History Channel, the Learning Channel, CBC, Discovery, Knowledge Network, Women's Network, all PBS stations. I did get hooked on Sex and the City DVD's though, about three years after it left the airwaves! No matter what Peewee Herman did in private, I still think his series, PeeWee's Playhouse was an excellent show with humour at many levels. I also miss Mr. Dressup who adopted my first born as his cousin.

I generally read non-fiction. I am an information hound. I am curious, want to know the details, the story behind the story. I enjoy reading about people's lives, their struggles and triumphs.
Environmentalist David Suzuki for keeping science understandable and for his dedication to protecting our planet and of course, for being Japanese, Lowly the Worm for his cousins in my garden, Curious George for being a rascal, Al Simmons from Winnipeg for his wacky songs and props, Tommy Douglas for Canada's medicare system, Paul Jay for the courage to dream big!
