Growing up in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Australia and then Oregon and Los Angeles, Diane studied "Suzuki" (an ear training method) in classical piano. Becoming tired of being restricted to one genre as her tastes became more diverse, and with the ability to play completely by ear without reading a note, Diane began to cultivate her own extraordinary style as a pianist and began composing and playing gigs. At
this point unbelievably, she wasn’t aware she could sing.
After moving to Los Angeles, she fully realized her vocal abilities- ’it took me a while to work out that I was good enough to be taken seriously since most of my experience was operatic shrills thru the house and hairbrush karaoke’ she explains. The reaction to her sublime voice and totally unique soulful, souring melodies was completely undeniable.
In Los Angeles, Diane was living two very different lives. By night she would perform
her songs and jam in the more salubrious LA muso joints, winning fans and applause.
By day she made ends meet by playing piano at LA’s most up-market hotels and
bars - still the clientele couldn’t help but be drawn to the piano; Prince once invited Diane back to his house to jam with his band.
Lured in early 2007 to London by her ever transient spirit and love of England, Diane performed her first London shows to unprecedented reception and acclaim. Music Week wrote that, "Diane has a voice and songwriting ability that will connect with truly global audiences. One of 2007’s strongest new finds"
Diane has recently signed to S-Curve Records and is recording her debut album.
