Following a couple of successful and fun years, vQp has decided to take a break from the project. Unfortunately, the band members' current work commitments are proving too great to allow enough free time to record. However, we are optimistic that this will change in time.
We have completed five songs to date, plus a sixth which was recorded as a special commission. We have several further ideas sitting in the pot (including an acoustic treatment of Queen's greatest hard rocker – "It's Late") and have just contributed the proceeds from our first year of sales - £147.13 - to the Mercury Phoenix Trust for distribution to AIDS charities.
Special thanks to all the people who have supported the project by buying the songs, making donations or giving up their time.
We'd like to take this opportunity to offer our heartfelt thanks to those who have helped us this far, particularly Steve Eastment, Inma Villarrubia, the GC Rejects crew (Ian Appleton, Steve Nisbet, Neil Burrows) and Tom Walker for their musical talents, time and inspiration. Special thanks also to Gareth Jones who coded our mailing list database software.
If you like the songs and would like to help the fight against AIDS, please go to the Mercury Phoenix Trust and make a donation.
Matthew Harffy, Simon Mann, Paul McCluskey
The seed was sown for the formation of vQp following a chance conversation on the Queen Online message board between Matthew Harffy and Simon Mann and quickly blossomed into the World's Premier Virtual Tribute Band.
Comprising a nucleus of three members plus various guest musicians, songs are recorded in the members' own home studios and the resulting tracks combined to create the finished songs.
It was decided early on that the songs would be sold with the proceeds being donated to the Mercury Phoenix Trust in memory of Freddie Mercury, who would have celebrated his 60th birthday in September 2006.
