My Interests

dance performance and choreography... herbs and nutritional healing, art nouveauthe Left Bank Movement beyond obsessed with music and art, travel....hoping to move overseas soon!...religion, spirtituality, cultures, food, dance. im a culture vulture, a foodie, a thrift-store fashionista, film buff, wine lover. compulsive writer, love the sound of water running and the smell of the ocean, adore animals, plants, babies, children, things that make me laugh, making people laugh, cuddling, kicking ass if i need to, being proactive. i've always known who i am. i believe things should be beautiful...if they can't be beautiful, be interesting, and if they can't be interesting, then i pray for neutral......

I'd like to meet:

people who are.... creative. don't take yourself too seriously. have integrity. love to explore and analyze but can just sit and be. not in the thrall of drugs, alcohol, local drama, or self-obsession. dreamy but driven.culturally aware but not pc. introspective. extroverted. funny.can you make me laugh?do you do what you say you're going to do? do your actions and words line up?do you have a strong sense of yourself not based on what you eat, what designer you wear, what political affiliations you have, compliments or criticisms that come your way, etc, etc... do you know who you are?but mostly... can you make me laugh?i love...girlbois, boigirls, fellow mixed culture/ethnicity/race peeps. adoptees, girlies and bois who want to sit on my lap, cuddlers, cynics, people who snort when they laugh, homebodies, insomniacs, and other people who just don't fit in but arent trying to be different.i am at the point in my life where i have no patience for dramatics, insincerity, manipulations, dishonesty, and people who are in general self-destructive and self-obsessed. if this fits you, keep right on movin'. if you are self-confident, self-aware, community-minded, compassionate, introspective, and hold yourself accountable for what you do and say, then i would love to hear from you. ..

Music:

lately. the knife, rakim, gangstarr, any of Stuart Price's projects, royskopp, rjd2, nick warren, dave seaman, any of the Global Underground and Back to Mine series, tortoise, way out west, fiona apple, amy winehouse (get off the crack!!!shit!!!), bjork, imogen heap/frou frou, talib, guru, gym class heroes, future jazz project, ledisi, damian marley, the coup, ravi shankar, bally sagoo, sneaker pimps, gus gus, tribe called quest (nonstop), talkdemonic, faithless, de la,ella/sarah/etta/lena/billie...you know the drill. craig david, loius armstrong, django reinhardt, madeleine peyroux, georgia anne mulrow. ellington, herbie mann, sun ra, maceo when im in the mood. ray charles, parliament, the purple one, lovin anita o'day, what can i say...limewire is my friend.

Movies:

Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle (best NPH guest appearance ever...) Chinatown, City of Lost Children, Daughters of the Dust, Station Agent, Rivers and Tides, Zoolander, Napoleon Dynamite, Rize, French Twist, almost anything by almodovar, The Devil's Backbone,Gloria (Cassevetes- amazing director), Long Kiss Goodnight, Ghost Dog (much less obtuse than most of Jarmusch's films, and one of the few modern movies whose theme is integrity and dignity). Love Bollyfood films and blaxpoitation ever since I was a wee lass. still searching for a good lesbian movie (tho high art, when night is falling and bound all get props). anyone else out there seen Space Odyssey and analyzed it in slow-mo? Blade Runner (the directors cut) 6 or 7 times? not you, dad... anyone else? new movies i really like, if not love... upside of anger. one of the few realistic portrayals of grief and loss i can relate to...the main character's brittleness, strength, and vulnerablilty. after losing my brother, i find that most representations of grief and loss are wholly trite and insufficient, but not this one. kid stays in the picture...like rivers and tides, a movie within a movie...not just a documentary but cinema verite in and of itself.... howls moving castle, except for the end....WTF? gorgeous anime. house of flying daggers....broke my heart, fucking gorgeous. first movie i ever saw by myself and i'm so glad. napoleon dynamite. my lips hurt real bad!!!!! life aquatic. amazing soundtrack, modern surrealism at it's best. Honestly, I cant stop watchin' cartoons. Adult Swim (and Outkast) make me wanna move to Atlanta. People are heartbreaking, cartoons I can handle. Lain is dark dark poetry in animated form, anyone who has suffered thru deaths of loved ones will probably find it painful but somehow it grasps more of that space inbetween worlds than almost anything i've seen.anyone else remember The Last Unicorn? made by same dude that did Thundercats (ho!!!), Akira. I tend to see alot of re-issues, director's cuts, midnight movies. Sucker for 20's filmas at the Castro or Neptune. Jesus Christ I'm too much of a nerd to live anywhere but Seattle, when am I gonna get the cojones to move back?!!!!!!

Television:

man v. wild, ufc/bodog etc when im chillin with emi, deadly arts, human weapon. lotsa anime esp GITS Stand Alone, but I wish Adult Swim would cut out all the crappy pseudo-live action post-ironic bullshit. me want witty cartoon characters and hot anime girls!!!fine living network and travel channel, since all they show on food network is Emeril and Rachael Ray.Total sucker for DIY shows but run as fast as i can from reality tv.

Books:

Writers (poetry and prose) i love: ntozake shange, GGMarquez, rudolfo anaya, ray bradbury, ee cummings, nikki giovanni, james baldwin, wallace stevens, elizabeth barrett browning, jeffrey eugenides, donna tartt, sarah waters, shay youngblood, toni morrison, cherrie moraga, jeanette winterson, ana castillo, octavio paz, italo calvino, neruda, zora neale, salinger (he has much, much better writings than catcher in the rye-read them!)Favorite books: Bless Me Ultima/ Love in the Time of Cholera/ Dandelion Wine/ The Halloween Tree/ Beloved/ Black Girl in Paris/ The Bone People/ Tipping the Velvet/ In the Lap of the Buddha/ So Far From God/ Anne of Green Gables/ Tree Grows in Brooklyn/ Their Eyes Were Watching God Santa Evita y mucho mucho mas.......love David Sedaris. read any and all auto/biography. trying to cut down on reading cuz i end up feeling like ive committed as soon as i've read a coupla pages...even tho i can read three books a day, i'd still like to have a life outside of reading...that being said, got any books to recommend?

Heroes:

Tina Modotti. Angela Davis. Frida, porsupuesto. Audrey Hepburn. Dolly Parton. Sor Juana. Eva Peron. Imogen Heap. Pam Grier. Oprah. Hilary Clinton. maybe Obama...I can't be the only person in the world who would cry from sheer happiness for two days straight if either one of them was president...wait, was that heroes or crushes?
