The Silencers

Back in the great Detroit surf rush of 94, three hipsters got together in tribute of all things twangy. Inspired to create noise by the likes of: The Hellbenders, Dick Dale, the Cramps, Link Wray and the Trashmen. The 1st single "Spaceman/Matt Helm was self released in Nov 95 on martini Lunch records. 2 full lengths were released on Alive/Total Energy records. "Powered By Twang" in 1997 and Cyclerific Sounds" in 1999. We appeared on several comps. Including: Surfin the Spillway, The Bomp Records 25th Anniversary, Motor City's Burning-Bomp and several others. As well as several singles on Pure Vinyl records in Austria. Mostly we focused on playing Detroit... but played around the mid-west, Nashville, played Cavestomp in 2001 with Dave Davies, some shows with Davie Allan and blew like a tumbleweed through Chicago. Unfortunately, the band ran its course in 2001.The Beta Rays were a new project with the Silencers drummer, guitarist and the Volcanos bass player, Dave Fragale. One EP was released on Pure Vinyl (Shockwave Detroit) and a CD recorded, but not released. Another band followed "The Velvet Revolution". With the full Silencers lineup and a vocalist... who now sings with Siddhartha. A CD was recorded, but not released.Eric the guitar player, is now playing alt country/folk and writing songs. Now living in Minneapolis and missing Detroit. Eric the drummer is still wreaking havoc in Detroit and smoking those funny little left handed jazz cigarettes. Dave Leeds, the bass player... I dont know what the heck he's doing.... but I'm sure it involves collecting records in some way.
