OSONThe Predator of Lyrical Opportunity
A New Englander by birth, but now a southerner by growth, Damian OSON Williams, lives what he speaks and speaks what he lives.
The Brunswick lyrical contender and 20-year poetic veteran, has a way with words that are just incredible and noble. Oson uses his voice as a vehicle to change the world---one poem at a time. These thought-provoking messages as laced on the track Mercy, Mercy Me that address a series of issues that have plagued the American society and have profoundly discussed ways of getting out of the ghetto.
Oson boasts, What separates me from the crowd of poets is Im not just a poet; Im a movement-- a one-man movement. I have enough poems to change lives. Aside from that, his outstanding delivery distinguishes him as a sought-after spoken-word artist and not just a poet.
Demonstrating his unequivocal talent, Oson has been featured in a variety of venues across the United StatesWho Needs Hollywood on the Oxygen cable channel, Lyric Café in Miami, Twilight Lounge and the Lark Tavern, in Albany, New York, the Ritz Theatre in Brunswick , The World of Nations and the Kuumba Festival in Jacksonville, Florida.
Oson emerged on the poetry scene at a Brunswick bookstore, Respect for Life, where he was fully-embraced and encouraged by owner, Odis Muhammad. Parallel to his performance, Oson also used this time to study his craft as suggested by his deceased mentor, Keith Collier.
Although the burgeoning spoken word circuit has ignited and drawn a large audience partly due to hip hop mogul, Russell Simmons HBO show, Def Poetry Jam, Oson has noit found his way there but is looking to develop his career more by accepting speaking engagements from organizations and international events. So far, hes been invited to Haiti, France, Sierra Leone and Japan to perform one of his most renowned pieces---A Belly Full; a poem about the horrific experiences slaves endured during the Middle Passage.
Following his passion early on in life, Oson realized his talent as a sixth grade student when he faced challenges during the growing pain years of adolescence. The budding poet expressed his feelings in his first piece, Who Can I Tell. "This piece is about my disgruntled family because I didnt have anyone to turn to," Oson said. "From sixth through ninth grade, I wrote sporadically as I felt more issues arise. From ninth to the the 11th grade I wrote poetry everyday amost 7 times aday to a girl named S. Moody whom I was never able to call my girlfriend! Oh well!" added Oson.
Looking to the future, Oson has plans of dropping his 13th forthcoming spoken word album, The Chronicles of Oson volume 1, in mid-September to continue his mission to educate, entertain and inform because we need to know.
"When I die, I will to be a legend in history textbooks and not a foot note, "Oson said.
