About Me

Ukuleles, mellow guitars and dreamy vocals abound on the Johnny Starlings’ latest album, “Aiming Too High.” One listen-through and it will be clear why the Johnny Starlings abandoned the Los Angeles scene in late 2005 in favor of California’s more rural Central Coast. The album was cut at Blue Universe Recording and Laurel Lane Studios in San Luis Obispo, recorded by Chris Robertson and Jennings Jacobsen (of the Damon Castillo Band) respectively. Some of the Central Coast’s brightest talents find their way onto the various tracks of “Aiming Too High” including clarinetist Ron Romero, bassist Travis Harms, and drummers Jennings Jacobsen and Isaac Laing. Special appearances include Darrell Voss on glockenspiel and the always impressive Inga Swearingen, who lends her voice to one of the album’s most stirring selections, “’Til my Peace be Made.” The core of the group’s sound, however, stems from the work of singer and songwriter Jody Mulgrew with the help of original-starling Yohei Shikano. Rooted in a genuine love for music, they serve up a comforting and familiar sound, that will cause your ears to perk up and toes to start tapping.BUY THE NEW ALBUM--"AIMING TOO HIGH" FROM THE JOHNNY STARLINGS.. -- at CD BABY --
