I am here for Friends

About Me

Paul Guadalupe and Guadakomeda are two very different people in one person. Perhaps you’ve seen Guadakomeda’s work in PULP. Guadakomeda put Red Hot Chili Peppers horizontally on the cover. He placed Coldplay’s Chris Martin on a background so white that you can see on his teeth what he just had for breakfast. His edgy layouts leap from the page and threaten to bite you in the ass. A much sought-after graphic designer, a member of a progressive design collective called TeamManila, Guadakomeda is a well-oiled machine. He is not human. He has seventeen girlfriends. But Paul Guadalupe is soft and cuddly in person. He has seventeen best friends, all of whom are girls. They all call him or meet him after work to drink with him or have interesting conversations about life, love and Field Mice. On a good day he will let you listen to a new shoegaze hit by some obscure British band on his I-pod. And a good day for him means the printer hasn’t fucked up his layout again.//TAKEN FROM GUADAKOMEDA'S FOLIO BOOK//Building his style on the groundbreaking design philosophy of Raygun, PAUL R. Z. GUADALUPE incorporates the influence of artists like David Carson and Chris Ashworth into his own artistic approach, resulting in a style that is marked by lush graphics, experimental typography, and a willingness to innovate and explore.Having earned his Fine Arts degree at The University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and honed his craft with four top-notch graphic design houses, Guadakomeda chain-smoked his way to success, gaining further recognition by designing for two major music publications, PULP MAGAZINE and MTV INK (where he is the art director), and the annual THE PHILIPPINES YEARBOOK, all under THE FOOKIEN TIMES PUBLISHING. His work has also been nurtured by the graphic design studio TEAM MANILA, where he continues to let his style evolve into an ever-growing, ever-changing portfolio. His work is as unique and unconventional as his taste for indiepop and indierock music, foreign films, and pornography, being classic adult movie actress Traci Lords biggest fan.A strong believer in the saying that the only thing permanent in the world is change, Paul continually reinvents his persona and creative processes. This is a testament to his commitment to being a true artist: how he constantly keeps up with the times without compromising his convictions and his individuality. He is also on a diet.
