Stephen grew up in a small North Carolina town. His family was steeped in folk and bluegrass music, and their acoustic guitars rung forth the tunes of Doc Watson, Chet Atkins, and James Taylor among many others. Stephen began singing while very young and performed at various functions, however, he put aside singing for many years, as he learned and became a very talented Trombonist. Yet, in his final year of college, the urge to sing resurfaced and it has been a critical part of his life ever since. Winning a large contest in early 2006 earned him a recording session in Tennessee, which resulted in his first album: Awakened. His songs range from powerful, to smooth, to soulful.
