He picked up the Bass Guitar while still at the "Big N.O." Northwestern High School with Ernie Rogers. At the age of 16 Darrell became drummer for the "Jimmy Wilkins Orchestra" a local Jazz Big Band comprised of musicians from the Count Basie Orchestra and Motown Records. Darrell made the switch to Bass Guitar full time while attending college, and moving on to gain his performance experience while working at "Dummy Georges" Jazz Club with his Teddy Harris Quintet. After that he began touring with Martha Reeves while also touring a few years with "The Spinners". The last few of which he served as Music Director. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Over the course of his career Darrell "Peanut" has performed, recorded or toured with several well know artist: The Four Tops, The Temptations, G.C. Cameron, Andy Williams, Natalie Cole, The Supremes, Bob James, Aretha Franklin, Esther Phillips. Marlena Shaw, Etta Jones, Etta James, Ronnie Dyson, Joe Williams, Houston Purser, O.C.
