There is a legend that talks about the raven being the only bird to fly through the worlds of the living and of the dead. Every night the raven stands at the grave of those who died under mysterious and sad circumstances. And the raven can bring them back to life!
Inspired by that legend, Dewindson Wolfheart created the Brazilian band
RAVENLAND...
Back in 1997, the band was formed by Dewindson Wolfheart on vocals, André Cardoso on guitars, Clécio Christian on bass and Alexandre Brito on the drums. Since the beginning the musical proposal of the band was to combine some elements of metal, gothic music and the 80’s rock/pop.
The first recordings of the band were the demos
“October of 1998†(1998) and
“Live at Kalimar†(2000). The band also recorded a live show on video called “Noturnaâ€. It was released in 1999.
RAVENLAND was always very active in terms of shows. They have participated at some very important Brazilian festivals playing with such respected bands as Monasterium, Insanity, Obskure, Govanon, Pantáculo MÃstico and Krisiun.
RAVENLANDalso have revealed famous Brazilian musicians of nowadays such as the drummer Alex Brito that plays in the thrash metal band Andralls.
Somehow, the year of 2001 was essential for the band. Moonshadow Records was very interested in the band and they offered
RAVENLAND a contract for the recordings of their supposed first full length album. The contract would also include a full international distribution deal. Motivated, the musicians recorded 12 new songs for the album that was baptized as
“After The Sun Hidesâ€. Everything was ready when the band heard the sad news about Moonshadow going to break due some ideological problems related to religion. That fact left the entire band devastated.
Afterwards,
RAVENLAND was invited to take part in a tribute album for the Greek dark metal heroes Rotting Christ. So they recorded
“Among Two Storms†from their A Dead Poem album. In fact, RAVENLAND’s version was considered by the Brazilian press the best track of the album that also included other respected and famous bands from Brazil. But the great results were not enough to keep the band alive. The frontman and mastermind Dewindson was still very disappointed with Moonshadow’s break and about the whole situation of the band. Back then, the best decision was to put the band in a hiatus.
ILooking for new horizons, Dewidson moved from Rio Grande do Norte state to the city of Fortaleza, state of Ceará. There he was invited to join the band Thipharet. That was the moment when he met Camilla Franklin, who was the violinist and leader of the band. Soon they discovered that had so much in common, musically and personally. It did not take long and they fall in love with each other and got married.
The goth couple was now walking together the ways through a solidification of their own musical project. For a short time they took part of the group Pantáculo MÃstico till Dewindson got the invitation to join Andralls, the famous thrash metal act where the old
RAVENLAND drummer was playing. Dewindson could not reject the invitation and due that he was forced to move to São Paulo. There he toured with the thrash maniacs and recorded some TV shows for a while till the previous Andralls vocalist asks to rejoin the group. That was the point when destiny took part: Camilla also moved to São Paulo and Dewindson got convinced by her to reform
RAVENLAND.
In São Paulo, they started to search for new musicians and met the guitarist Albanes, the bass player João Cruz and the drummer Rick Barrocks. The new incarnation of RAVENLAND was now complete.
* Now living and working in São Paulo, a city with much more opportunities for a group like RAVENLAND, they release an EP called “Black EPâ€. Bringing two new compositions - “Velvet Dreams†and “Among Two Storms†– the EP was very well received by the local press. The concerts promoters were impressed as well and RAVENLAND started playing a lot in the local rock clubs and festivals. They were also invited to take part of the soundtrack of the movie DM-X.
* After ten years of an endless battle, destiny was finally on the band’s side. They met the worldwide famous drummer Ricardo Confessori (Angra/Shaman) who got very interested in the band’s music. Convinced about their talent, Ricardo offered himself to produce and play the drums for the first
RAVENLAND studio albumbr
* Entitled “...And a Crow Brings Me Backâ€, the first official RAVENLAND album is being produced by Ricardo Confessori at Fusão Studios which is one of the best recording studios in Brazil. The album will bring 14 new tracks that shows all the potential of this group that is already considered the best goth metal act hailing from Brazil. Expected to be released till the end of the first semester of 2008, the album also brings a very special guest: Tommy Lindal (Ex-Theatre Of Tragedy).
