PICKAXE was formed in an unlikely occurrence in 2006 when Garet Cox (drums) met up with Ehren Behringer (vocals/guitar) in a backstreet alley off of Waterman and Highland in San Bernardino, CA. Garet had been down on his luck and was working as a high-class male prostitute, and Ehren was a prospective client. While the two were working out a business transaction in the back of Ehrens truck, Garet saw a stack of Guitar One magazines and quickly started up a conversation.
It turned out Ehren and his long-time friend and band-mate Ryan Lightfoot (bass) were looking for a drummer. Garet was just the man they were looking for. After several weeks of jamming and songwriting the trio got anxious and started drinking heavily to hold down the rhythm section. After a little animosity and mistrust, The Axe decided to take on a 4th guitarist by the name of Lester Maness, who was looking for the dirtiest and loudest band possible. Knowing that Lester has been clean and sober for awhile now, drinking large amounts of alcohol among the original 3 was accepted! Thus forming the new quartet we all know as The ALMIGHTY PICKAXE!!!!!
