‘Love the Concept’ has had two separate life spans. The first began with a group of students at St Columb’s College who had an inability to take their weekly drama class seriously. This culminated at age 17 with the first set of ‘Love the Concept, But...’ shows including a successful run at the 1995 Dublin Fringe Festival. The young group also built up a strong link with BBC Radio Foyle, recording a pilot in ’95 and ’97 and supplying weekly sketch material for shows helmed by Sarah Travers and Mark Patterson.University life soon beckoned. As well as chalking up successful shows in Coleraine, Omagh, Enniskillen and Belfast the group were also invited to open for Kevin McAleer and Jeremy Hardy at the 98 and 99 Gasyard Wall Feile. The original line up’s last shout was to be a successful run at the ’00 Edinburgh Fringe Festival The group then went into unofficial retirement and settled down into not so comfy positions as 90’s comedy also-rans.That was until 2006 when Raymond Lau at BBC Radio Ulster comissioned a pilot of a Peter Davidson script entitled ’Unsung Ulster.’ They soon set up a ‘My Space’ site and filmed a DVD entitled ‘McGuffin.’ As a result of the pilot two of ‘Love the Concept’s cast members Peter Davidson and Sorcha Shanahan became core members on the BBC Radio Ulster sketch show ‘The Ulster Way.’ The group have now returned to live performance after a successful show at Derry’s Playhouse in April 07, the ‘Big Tickle Comedy Festival’ September 07 and March 08.U Can’t Touch This
