Mercury Drop began their voyage in 2004 more as an experiment than a traditional performing rock band. Recording drums as a session player, Michael Allen met singer songwriter Jesse Hardin in the studio. The two forged a creative bond and friendship and have performed together since. The union became complete with the addition of bassist and songwriter Dan Morris formerly of Marathon and Street Light Syndrome. Compared to bands such as King’s X and Wolfmother, Mercury Drop has made it their mission to write melodies that speak to the heart as well as intense grooves and powerful choruses that shake the soul. Not content being another carbon copy rock band, Mercury Drop searches within themselves to create honest music with integrity.
Mercury Drop released their self-titled debut album in the summer of 2005 touring throughout the southeast in support. With a growing fan base, Mercury Drop began to play some of the South's finest venues. Most notable include, Ten High Club, Smith's Olde Bar, Masquerade, Vinyl, Hard Rock Cafe's Velvet Underground, as well as Nashville local hot spot, 12th and Porter. Mercury Drop concluded their 2006 summer tour by recording a live performance at Vinyl showcasing several new unreleased songs. The band spent the rest of 2006 writing new material for their next recording. Mercury Drop will release a self-titled EP in August 2007 with five new tracks reflecting the creative growth process of the band over the past two years. Focusing more on songwriting and melodies, Mercury Drop believes this to be their best release to date.
