KRISHNA JONES(VOCALS,GUITARS)
Krishna Jones is one of the most respected guitarist, singer/songwriters
and producers in Australia. He made his first impact on the Oz music
scene in the mid 90s with the Aria nominated rock band, Juice. Juice
received high rotation on Triple J with the albums, Wine of Life and
Fractured.In 2000, Krishna formed Juggernaut, a collaboration of some of the best musicians this country has seen. Juggernaut were a popular live band that built a strong fan base in Sydney and on tours. Krishna has enjoyed some
of the best supports the musical world has offered. Michael Hutchence of INXS fame asked Krishna to join INXS on a national tour. Tim Farris also
of INXS fame has produced one of Krishnas Eps and has been a long time supporter and fan. Krishna has also supported Silverchair and many international bands such as Soundgarden, Radiohead and the Tea Party. Krishna formed The Dealers Blues Band, a celebration of Blues music; The Dealers recently toured Australia to sell out shows and a legion of fans. Krishna also formed the hip-hop, hard funk outfit, Beacon comprising of 7 musicians including rappers, saxophone, keys, guitar, bass, drums and percussion elements.Krishna and Mitchells years of performing and recording experience have resulted in the powerful band that is Krakatoa, their proudest musical project to date........................................................
.................................................MITCHELL ANDERSON (VOCALS,KEYBOARDS)
Mitchell has had a number of his own bands over the years which include, Central formed in the early nineties which was a 5 piece outfit which recorded their album Mother Earth at the then famed Rhino studios which gave him his first single release called keep the balance which was also placed on the compilation fully functional which received major airplay throughout the world.Mitchells next band was Skinwho were formed in around about 97/98 which recorded their self titled album Skin which was played on radio regularly. Skin toured with and supported artists such as Jimmy Barnes / The Angels /Choirboys /Matt Finish / Richard Clapton Midnight Oil to just name
a few.He has also his own musical trio called Starsky which is electronic funk for nightclubbing.Mitchell has been a musician since age 5 when he started to learn piano ,he has been the voice of MMM,s summertime advertising campaign rockin in
the summertime played year after year nationally. Performed on the
Album Tales from the Neighbourhood Declan Kelly / Sleepy Jacksons last album.He has spent the last two years writing and recording plus touring with Krishna Jones in a duo plus the 5 piece blues band The Dealers which has been a great lead up to the new band. .............................................ANDREW BYRNES(DRUMS,PERCUSSION)Andrews drumming career spans back to the 80s, where he toured and recorded with one of Sydney finest underground psychedelic bands The Moffs From there he branched out into many other styles of music, including Latin, Jazz, Eastern and world music.
Having studied part time at the conservatorium coupled with private tuition, Andrew began a career in teaching drums and percussion, which carries on to this day.Andrew enjoyed a short stint with successful indie band The Clouds in
the early 90s... As a freelance musician, he toured and recorded with
many artists throughout the 90s, some of those include Groove Terminator,
Juice, Juggernaut, Tribal Drift, Psycho Zydeco and the wild and Crazy
Harlem Shuffle.2000 and beyond has seen Andrew jointly create an original electro band Loonaloop which has toured Europe 4 times and released two CDs from
03-06. In that time also Andrew recorded and toured with Jim Conways
Big Wheel and Jan PrestonTo this day Andrew is very active in the music scene, regularly
performing with one of Sydneys favourite swing bands the Jungle
Kings as well as working with, team building drumming group Human Rhythms.....................................................
...............................................TAI ROTEM(GUITAR)
Tai Rotem Tai was a founding member Tax, one of Sydney's seminal progressive rock acts. The band played just about every conceivable
venue in Sydney throughout the mid to late nineties, from the Opera
house to Long Bay Jail. Tax were a favourite live act in Bondi and the Northern beaches.After the band broke up in 1999, Tai turned his attention to the production side of music, spending several years in studio apprenticeships before forming his own music production company, Artist Development Services. This has seen Tai work on countless music productions as a producer and composer.Recently Tai began complaining of itchy feet but realised that rather than it being a case of Tinea it was a result of not playing in a rock and roll band for too long! His opportunity came in the form of an invitation to embark on the long way to the top with Krakatoa....................................................
...................................................JULIAN BAXTER(BASS)
Since arriving from new Zealand, Julian has been in many local popular bands before taking a seat in the pocket of the krakatoa rythym machine. With influences from James Jamerson to Aston Barrett to world groove and of course, a heavy blues influence.
Playing in popular band Funk Fu-Lee and various other projects Julian cut
his teeth on the funk and soul influence he brings to Krakatoa. Another popular band Azadoota, a world beat latin band with strong middle eastern roots performed high energy shows with infectious grooves. Julian toured extensively with Azadoota, a favourite at many festivals. Julian gained a wealth of knowledge in the styles of the clave. Till now, Julian has been performing with The Zion Band and bringing forth a strong dub-reggae-hip hop-dancehall groove to the band. With regular gigs at the Basement, The Vanguard and the Beach Road just to name a few as well as performing to huge crowds as the Newtown Festival / Peats Ridge Festival as well a recent gig at The Great Escape, a 3 day festival in the heart of Sydney.
Julian hooked up with Krishna and Mitchell for the Dealers Blues Band First offence tour AC Baxter got back to his roots in the blues. As well as receiving a liver transplant at the end of the tour, Julian also became the Bass of Krakatoa....................................................
