Stupido Records is one of the oldest and biggest totally independent record labels, est. 1989. Our empire has grown to include a record shop, a mail-internet order service and a publishing company. Stupido Records offer an array of eclectic artists, covering garage rock to hip hop electronics, lo-fi pop to post punk sonic genius. This combination has established Stupido Records as the most credible, influential and important label to come out of Finland.
Our current roster includes... Aavikko
Aavikko must be one of the premier Finnish acts that appeal equally to chart-oriented music lovers as well as marginal cult fanatics. The band's music goes from surf-house to maniacal monkey-jazz, from delicate faux-lounge moments to experimental avantgarde screech, from ethnic rhythms to quasi-disco boogie blast and miraculously, manages to make perfect sense!
www.aavikko.net Boomhauer
Boomhauer are first and foremost known as a live band, a cartoon rock trio from hell that exists purely to entertain and make people happy. They offer a rollercoaster ride of wild country punk fun, energetic garage rock, clever pop moments and trashy white boy blues licks.
koti.mbnet.fi/b-hauer Eläkeläiset
Eläkeläiset (The Pensioners) play Finnish old people's dance music called humppa. Most of their songs are rock classics turned into humppas with funny and clever lyrics - in Finnish. Nowaways they also write their own tunes.
www.humppa.com Evilsons
A mix of ska, reggae, a tiny bit of punk, rock 'n' roll and even some blues resulting in a nice dish of totally unique punky reggae. Evilsons are guaranteed to satisfy your skankin' needs.
www.evilsons.fi Giant Robot
Giant Robot's music is a heady and context dependent stew of influences ranging from hip hop to dub, funk to r'n'b, mesmeric rock to tech-minimalism. Live, the band traverses the distance between meditation and controlled psychedelia.
www.giantrobot.fi The Hypnomen
A five-piece with the knowledge of colourful psychedelia and black grooves... The instrumental band with a cult status both home and abroad now sound tough and nuanced. Sometimes even with vocals!
www.hypnomen.fi Montevideo
Montevideo may still be better known as the South American city, but the Helsinki based band is piling up some pressure on the Uruguayan capital. Their soulful, airy and catching songs have won over many hearts and drawn comparisons to such contemporaries as Death Cab For Cutie and Doves.
