Two sisters, one Jetta...3,500 miles and counting

About Me

With a string of unfortunate failures under our belts, my sister Lila and I have decided to embark on a new endeavor. We find ourselves in our 30s with few actual possessions, dead-end jobs and no real relationship prospects.Between us, there have been various botched attempts at academia, interior design and several businesses – including a frozen banana stand on the canal in our hometown of Indianapolis. We’ve also been the better half of numerous failed relationships, broken engagements and marriages gone awry. Over the years, however, we’ve collected a rather fabulous group of friends and have thankfully been only partially responsible for maiming or disfiguring a few of them. So, we quit our jobs, sold everything we own and decided to cram our wardrobes, shoes and accessories into the back of my Jetta.Initially, it was to be a road trip. But we’re not sure if we’re coming back. --- Lola ..

Ah, Portland

We're not always completely on target. Close. But nobody's perfect.   We just paid $55 each to immerse ourselves in tubs of warm, gooey mud. The spa people here in wine country assured us t...

A short hike along the left coastline came first. Then we pulled the Jetta back onto Highway One north: A snaking, climbing, dropping, twisting ride that you can't buy a ticket for.   Though she ...
