"...it sounds like somewhere you’d like to spend a long summer day. I certainly think so after listening to the band Summerhill’s debut album.........The first half of the album and the last couple of songs are particularly worthy of praise, especially the debut single "Parking Lane". If you like melancholy, it doesn’t get much better than the album’s fourth track, "Cherry"......"

".....It sounds like beautiful Danish pop. The trumpet and strings intro make everything sound like a soundtrack from an old Doris Day film, and then Sofie Darting’s wonderful voice surfaces from the morass. The other musicians – Thomas Li and Anders Remark – are firmly rooted in the finest traditions of timeless pop. And after nine songs we realise it: Summerhill are like a new Hush (leading Danish pop-duo) – only better."Women's magazine

"...Melodic, acoustic chick-pop with the same sort of restrained, sophisticated sound as Saint Etienne. Summerhill is a trio that makes delicate, refined pop music. If you’re a regular radio listener you’ll definitely know the single “Parking Lane†from their album. Sofie Darting’s immortally pretty vocals perfectly match the ethereal mood. So let your hair down, put your legs up and let Summerhill in under your skin. A wonderful, soul-healing debut."You can buythe album in all Scandinavian music stores or you can purchase it from

..............Summerhill glides elegantly and effortlessly into the tradition of intimate, melodious, subdued and chic pop music. The genre began with the bossa nova wave of the early 1960s, via artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim and Astrid Gilberto. And don’t forget one of the decade’s biggest cult stars, Claudine Longet, a vocalist who has won a special place in Summerhill’s hearts. Contributing to the genre in more recent times are artists such as Saint Etienne, Julee Cruise and Belle & Sebastian.
In its modern form, which Summerhill demonstrates, the style can be described as acoustic indie pop, cool, melancholic and melodious -- music that has the same effect on the listener as a cool breeze on a hot, hot summer day. It’s worth noting that the group’s first single, “Parking Lane,†immediately earned a slot on the playlist at Denmark’s biggest radio station P3. The distinction naturally raises expectations about the group’s debut album to be released by Bonnier-Amigo on 10 September 2007. The album will only contain the bands own compositions, in the same style and groove of the seductive “Parking Lane,†a track that seems to caress the listener’s heart.
Even though Summerhill have been playing together for just three years, the trio has found a personal expression that manages to be simple, yet complex, and immediate, yet refined all in one package. This is a compelling, winsome musical offering about calm, clarity and contemplation of the modern person, but it still brims with emotions, images and atmosphere. In the studio and on stage, the chemistry cannot be avoided. In both situations the attraction and spontaneity remain at the forefront—as magnetic as the music is on record, it radiates the same allure when performed live.
The three members of Summerhill met in 2004 and a year later, the group was a reality. Vocalist Sofie Darting is an unwritten book within the realm of music, but her charm and talent were quite apparent right from the start to the two gentlemen of the group, Anders Remark and Thomas Li. The strength of Darting’s unschooled voice becomes immediately evident to anyone who hears it, and on stage she gleams charisma and star quality. The term natural talent always seems to arise in reference to this delightful young lady. It’s something Danish singer-songwriter Martin Hall noticed, as Sofie contributes to his latest EP, Damage Control, on the number, “Swimming Pool Eyes.â€
Oddly enough, the track was produced by the two male members of Summerhill, who lent their talents in production and the remix. Korean-born guitarist and keyboard player Anders Remark has a powerful love for modern indie pop and a certain weakness for the now classic Emax sampler. He has done a lot of work in film music and remixes, and has played guitar for the trip-pop band Blue Foundation on several occasions. The final piece of the puzzle is the veteran studio rat Thomas Li who takes care of Pro Tools and production for Summerhill. Through the years Li has worked with international names such as Mitch Easter and Mark Wallis, while on Danish soil he has put his fingerprint on sounds for artists such as Caroline Henderson, Martin Hall, Clara Thomas, Kashmir, Souvenirs and many others.
Just as sure as you say “amen†in church, Summerhill is bound to be one of the year’s sensations with their ethereal, voluptuous material, which seems to have been created especially for the (hopefully) warm summer that lies ahead. It is timeless pop music with nerve, verve and heart, and it should not come as a surprise if this group becomes a major international success.
