tonight we're going to party like it's 1971

About Me

I'm a FICTIONAL character from a book called The Lost Tribes Of Pop: Goths, Folkies, iPod Twits and Other Musical Stereotypes. A sensitive soul, living in bubble of carefully insulated early seventies cultural perfection (i.e. not the real 70s, but my edited version of them, without the sexism and The Bay City Rollers). Either a walking novelty item, or a crusader for something pure and forgotten, depending on your opinion. Have not bought a single 'outer' garment of a non-secondhand nature since 1992. Every time I purchase a multipack of underpants from Marks And Spencer, I feel part of me dying.

Ok, so I am, when it comes right down to it, an illustration, and not real, but that doesn't mean that I don't bruise easily or want to groove around like a loony when I hear 'The Devil's Answer' by Atomic Rooster. Nor does it mean that there isn't an element or ten of me in many living, breathing people, and that I'm not a good excuse to bring a load of similar retro dudes and dudettes together here on myspace. My creator - whose taste is a bit of a mix of mine, and the Old Folkie character in my top friends - tells me that I am the most autobiographical of all the characters in Lost Tribes, but, then again, I bet he says that to all his 1100 word fictional snapshots of pop-loving life.Click here for more info (and 34% off the cover price) on what the Sunday Times called "The hottest new music book"!Legendary pop svengali Simon Napier-Bell (Dusty Springfield, Marc Bolan, The Yardbirds, You Don't Have To Say You Love Me) on The Lost Tribes Of Pop: ""Very funny... Every record company should keep a gold-bound copy to remind them who it is that keeps them in business."

Latest review of Retro Man's creator's book

This was in the brand new issue of the very fine The Word Magazine (formerly just Word). Bit of a relief, because it's one of Retro Man's favourite magazines, and if it had been a negative write-up he...
