In 1986, he moved to Florida with his mother and sister. After receiving his high school diploma from Port Charlotte High School, Marc moved on to Edison Community College where he received his associates in science degree. Marc eventually went on to attend the University of South Florida in Tampa, from which he would be awarded his bachelor's of science degree for Management Information Systems from USF's college of business. In spite of a stellar academice record, Marc found himself underemployed. His financial conundrum would lead him to join the United States Army in March, 1999. Marc's first five years of service were relatively uneventful. However, this would all change in 2003 when what was said to be a routine deployement evolved into what came to be known as Operation Iraq Freedom. Recognizing the significance of the events, Marc began to document his experiences in a poetic journal. While on his second tour of Iraq, Marc was exposed to the spoken word poetry artform. Though his speech was limited by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the war experience permanently stained Marc's psyche. Upon completing his time in service, no longer threatened by the possibility of military action, Marc gained significant notoriety in Miami's ultra competitive spoken word poetry scene. At one such event, Marc would meet a contact of Camilo Mejia, the prominent Iraqi War resister. Marc would join Iraq Veterans against the War and Veterans for Peace. Marc Reid speaks out frequently in both speeches and poems through South Florida. The collection of poems originally intended for the enjoyment of friends morped into a book entitled 'Dissonant Harmonics of War-Torn Mind, the definitive collection documenting the Iraq war experience through the eyes of an uninhibited soldier.Myspace.com Blogs - PURPLE STATES TV VIDEO - SO MANY STYLZ...POET....AUTHOR...ACTIVIST MySpace
