There are those who make beats and there are those who DJ. There are those who spit lyrics and there are those who indulge in other aspects of Hip-Hop culture. But there is one person whose very soul embodies all aspects of this creative culture. If love of music is a prerequisite for Hip Hop supremacy, Then prepare to add the name KNOTTY to the list of future Hip Hop Legends. It was this love of music that guided Knotty towards his first run-in with the culture on the streets of Philly in 1984. It was there that his passion for break dancing, graffiti, rapping and DJing consumed his soul. Slowly knotty would yearn to imitate the artists he saw until his fascination with the arts would push him to form various break dancing groups and rap groups and put on local shows in the very streets that introduced him to the game. After a chance run in with a local DJ, Knotty would become more fascinated with beat making and DJ’ing. Cats like Jazzy Jeff, Cash money, Eric B. and Jam Master J would stimulate his desire to become the illest DJ. This fascination slowly started to gear Knotty towards not only appreciating the DJ, but to become a fan of Beat makers such as Diamond D, Pete Rock and DJ Premiere. It wasn’t until he attended Middle Tennessee State University and majored in the recording industry that Knotty would fulfill his destiny and become the producer that he had always dreamt of becoming. Introduced to the game by his partner in crime DJ Pocket, Knotty would go on to DJ at local clubs and produce for a host of local talent that culminated in the much heralded project “Dead and Stinkin†performed by up and coming artist STINK. After logging hours in the studio honing his production and engineering skills, Knotty would relocate to Columbia, SC where he along with his group “The Coalition†would bless both college and local radio stations with hit after hit that would make him a household name on the SC scene. For years the crew would rock shows until the dream came to a halt amidst industry and inner-circle chaos. After learning the life lessons that came from paying dues and dealing with others on the music tip, Knotty took his lessons and infiltrated the Hip Hop scene of his new home Atlanta, GA. It is there that Knotty was reborn and given his name due to the fact that after hearing his banging, hard hittin beats, one would leave feeling like his head had just been 5 rounds with Mike Tyson himself. Knotty earned the rep of not only making hot joints, but for engineering all his sessions and taking any project and making it an instant classic. With an ear for hotness and a love for this culture rarely matched by others, Knotty is destined to become one of Hip Hop’s elite producer’s.
