About Me
Karine aka Shasta discovered Funk music at the age of 12, as musical
genre which is still today the most powerful influence in her evolution as
a DJ.
She goes to her first rave parties and clubs in the 90's and discovers detroit Techno, and house music thanks to artists like LFO, Kevin Saunderson,
Laurent Garnier, Derrick May...
She then gradually slides to a style much closer to classic Funk : Garage.
At the same time, Karine attends the Alta music school in Paris where she
studies Jazz guitar.
In 1998, she purchases her first turntables.
Inspired by David Morales, the Maw, Kerri Chandler, Charles schillings and several others, she
plays a very efficient and groovy Garage sound which is becoming more and
more popular in clubs.
Attracted by the stage, Shasta mixes in Spain (Gandia), in France
(Bordeaux, Nantes, le Havre) and both in Parisian bars(le Negus, le K. Bar,
le Tropic Café, l'île St Germain, le Wax...) and clubs (L'Elysée
Montmartre, le Folies Pigalle, le Gibus, les Bains Douches, le Q.G. ...).
Among her different activities, she has her own residence at the famous
Bains Douches with RLP in 2002. Many famous DJ/Producers such as John
Julius Knight, Paul Farris or Dave Waring mix side by side with her.
At the same time, she decides to set up her own parties, "Orchestra", with
Frank Valat (Kiss FM - Sao Paulo / Nova FM - Rio de Janeiro) as resident DJ, her goal : recapture
the Soulfoul/Deep House and Garage spirit that has been her motivation since her Debuts.
We also hear Shasta on the radio : with Dominique Torti in the Europe2's
radio show "DA MAXX" and on several occasions Bibi's NRJ's radio show
"Better Days".
