Arcadia: Bands of the Free; Home of the Saved!

About Me

Arcadian Collective is an ethical arts collaborative based in Norwich, Norfolk. We are, or have recently been, involved in projects involving art, design, writing and music, including collaborative projects with the The Arts Council/Art U Need/Andrea Mason, Norwich Arts Centre, the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts, Dragon Hall, The Euston Manifesto, Norwich Fringe Festival and others. Our record label - Arcadian Recording Company - seeks to find and nurture raw talent with a view to establishing longevity - we're not interested in quick buck, one-hit wonders - and to provide fair deals for artists; recognising the symbiotic nature of the relationship. Currently signings are experimental folk outfit Spidermilk; the foremost exponent of 'Polk' anti-genre - Lizzy; and we've just signed a deal with that purveyor of beautifully arranged and reflectively folk-tinged popular music: LoweryOur motto - 'Artistry-Integrity-Union' - expresses the core values of the collective. We have a written constitution that enshrines these values, against which all our actions are weighed. In addition, we are committed to ethical and sustainable practice. These values are non-negotiable and are in no way 'lip-service' - one of the reasons for the founding of Arcadian Collective was in response to the proliferation of empty sloganeering by large corporations who are 'passionate' about sandwiches or overuse and pervert the 'c' word - 'creative'. As students of history we definitely do not find 'solutions' for people: we remember that the Holocaust was described as ' The Final Solution'. We firmly believe in the right of Free Speech and are signatories of the Euston Manifesto. We have strong ethics tempered with a sense of humour. We want to inject some fun into the cultural landscape; providing events and artifacts which bring enjoyment to others, satisfaction to ourselves, and hopefully make a difference somewhere along the line. To this end, and in conjunction with Bluebottle management, we are the founders of the forthcoming Dumduckerdum music festival, scheduled for Norwich in late October 2007.If you like the sound of what we do, or want more information about us, or think we might like the sound of you - then contact us through Myspace or at [email protected] You never know what might happen!Send any demos to: Arcadian Collective Gallery 93 93 King Street Norwich NR1 1PWttfn By the way do check out the film of The Boss live in '75 and the Boss-ette that is Lizzy Live at Camden Crawl last month...

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: arcadiancollective.org.uk
Band Members: Marie-Claire Isaaman - Artist, MA Drawing course leader at NSAD and author of a new drawing book, wearer of interesting head scarves (and since visiting the US - a baseball cap collector), drinker of most wine varietals available without too much effort...currently somehow involved with Video Games Art & Design and other madness...Darren Leader - Graphic Designer, Record Selector and all-round good egg...A.K.A. 'Norwich's Paul Weller'. Cried in 1982 when The Jam split up, and kept crying all through the '80s as Weller's fashion sense descended into farce. However, cheered up as the '90s set in and the Woking One settled into his role as the Modfather. Currently justifying his distinctly un-mod flight in to folk-ish and experimental music by relating it to Weller's Wild Wood phase and Brendan Lynch's remixes.Chris Lowthorpe - Ideas Person, Record Selector, copywriter and record label overseer. Drinker of the black stuff (what, Bovril?). Currently pissed off with the 'new-folk' scene - middle-class morons singing about potato famines when their only frame of reference is Waitrose selling out of, "...those delightful Nicolas, so wonderful for salads". Also its regular descent into po-faced Xeroxing of the late 1950s MacColl Era - this is supposed to be fun guys, not a Stalinist regime!Other contributors: 'Irish' Paul Jennings - drawer/illustrator extrodinaire, fellow black stuff drinker, and currently reticent computer user; Andi 'Fisheye' Sapey - super Nikon operative (12.5 megapix you know!) and benevolent Photoshop manipulator - a damn fine fellow! Lizzy Birt - recording artist and sometime 'office glamour puss'; the Johnson; the 'milkers; Norwich's Sir George Martin: Lord Lowery, the Husbands; Derek Mace; My Dark Aunt; our producer; the first grip with the big biceps; God; everybody we've ever known...we're just so glad to be here we could cry...so happy, so grateful...
