About Me

What used to be a straight up funk/rock trio, Hybris has morphed over the past year. With the departure of Paul Amundson and the joining of Mike Ruit on bass guitar, the band took more of a jam band approach, sort of a smash up between the Chili Peppers and Dave Matthews Band. Hybris also added a part-time member, Andy Parr, on saxophone. Together, when not playing their brand of funk/jam rock, they form the jazz quartet "Us". Although not as active as in the past, Hybris still gets together and jams, and is always open to playing a random gig here and there. For the original bio, see below. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Hybris started after Greg Burmeister stepped out of the band Festoon in June 2006. The remaining members, Paul Amundson, Jake Sorum and Zach Spicer decided to keep going as a trio, rather than going on and recruiting new members. Zach took over lead vocals and Paul and Jake divided the backup vocals and things took off from there. With funk influences on bass and hard rock influences on the guitar, Hybris' fusion of hard rock and funk began hailing comparisons to such bands as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Incubus, comparisons that the band welcomed with open arms. While building up a fan base in the Grand Forks area, the boys in Hybris still have their goal of letting the world hear something fresh and new compared to the rising trends of modern radio. The band hopes to someday grow and evolve into something that no one had ever thought could come from North Dakota, much less Grand Forks. However, during November of 2006, Jake Sorum left the band due to personal reasons and to pursuit other interests. Thankfully, a replacement was not very far away, as Greg Burmeister had resurfaced as the frontrunner to fill in the 3rd spot in the band, therefore filling the space vacated by Jake and once again completing Hybris.Get FREE templates at myspace-html-layout.com!
