How does one measure a great emcee? Some say someone who is lyrically gifted. Others say someone who controls the crowd. I even heard someone say some who has achieved platinum success...I say and soon the world will say Emcee Nova.
Born in the mecca of the world...Harlem, NY and raised in the birthplace of Hip Hop...The Bronx, NY, there's no way of denying Nova's roots. Audio Two's "Top Billin'" was the first Hip Hop song that Nova fell in love with. It was then that Nova knew Hip Hop would be a part of his life forever.
2003 was the year Nova started rapping. He went under the name Supa Nova. But it was 2004 where Nova introduced himself to the game with the numerically lyrical day in the life of Hip Hop "Mathematics." Now armed with "Mathematics" Nova would go on to annihilate countless battles. One including a battle in which Nova had to face another rapper who had tried to claim the name Nova. The battle which was featured on Vol. 11 of the notable S.M.A.C.K DVD series. This battle resulted in Nova forcing his opposition to surrender after 4 rounds in a scheduled 5 round battle. Nova also got the chance to show off his battle skills, going undefeated on MTV 2's Fight Klub (a television show based on the top rappers from around the world battling). After achieving success in the battle rap scene, Nova knew that he would have to conquer more than the battle scene to become a great emcee. Now prepped for a change in direction, the Supa was dropped and replaced with Emcee. Now under the name Emcee Nova, this would spark his quest on bringing that "Golden Era" feeling back to Hip Hop.
This inspired Emcee Nova's first mixtape, "New Hip Hop Mixtape." Nova considered this his ode to Hip Hop. This mixtape would feature Nova's lyrics along vintage Hip Hop tracks like "The Show," "Juicy" and "Paper Thin." Thereafter Nova would expand his quest, being featured on countless DVDs and TV shows while working on his first album "Can I Speak To The A&R?"
"Can I Speak To The A&R?" which includes production from Scram Jones ("Ready" Black Rob) and SevenF ("Gangsta Boo" Chris Brown) became an underground success with it still being distributed to this day. DJ Scoob Doo, the ..1 underground DJ in New Jersey once played the whole album in one night at the listeners request.
Now dubbed the "Snap Hat and Adidas Dude," along with the notable "Hip Hop" tattoo along his wrists, Nova is ready to drop his next release "Costa Mesa" (which includes production from SevenF, Dame Grease, and Ron Browz). He is also a member of The Good Life Society. What else could one say, he's a GOOD Emcee.
