I am here for Friends

About Me

I live near Southend in Essex and as I was born and grew up just a few hundred yards from where I live now, I guess I have to claim to be a born and bred Essex girl (no white stilettos though!). I don't have any kids of my own, but I have two lovely nieces that live nearby that I love to bits! I have worked for a major High St bank for more years than I care to mention, the last 13 or so in Facilities Management. Apart from a day trip to Cherbourg, I didn't really leave the UK shores until I was in my early 30's when I decided to bite the bullet and set off for Disney in Fl. with a day trip up to Memphis thrown in to fullfil a life long ambition to visit Graceland. Since then I have had the travel bug and have done Disney World Fl. to death, and been to New Zealand to visit family 5 times with stopovers in Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji, and Sydney with a couple of short haul holidays in Malta and Gibraltar along the way. I've also spent a few days in New York and Toronto specifically to see the Billy Joel Musical Movin' Out, and Istanbul where I saw the Eurovision Song Contest live and made a fleeting background appearance on BBC3. I use to be a TV junkie, these days I spend much more time than I should on at my PC and housework has become a swear word! It's mostly been good fun though, and I have made lots of like minded friends through a certain singer's website forum that I like to meet up with whenever I can, many of them are here with me now!

JAMES FOX VIDEO DIARY
James very generously shared his experience of his time in the studio recording 'Six String' by doing a video diary for us. It's a unique insight in to how he works, in his own words, and a joy to watch.

I'd like to meet:

I'm cheating a bit here, because I have already met Darren Holden, but to bury him below James in my music section just isn't right. I thought it was about time I raised his profile to the level he deserves. Ok, he's not quite at James level here, but he's not far behind! I'm not cheating that much anyway, because I really do hope I get to meet him again soon! So here it is, my 'Darren Holden Corner'

Darren is currently taking a change in career direction and has teamed up with Finbarr Clancy, Martin Furey, Brian Dunphy to form The High Kings, an Irish folk and ballad group. They have had a fantastic response both in their native Ireland, where they filmed their Live DVD, and across the pond in the USA. They are currently promoting the CD and DVD with a series of shows and media appearances right across America with a very busy schedule that takes them through to August. Please see Darren's myspace for the venue dates. You can find the myspace links for both Darren and The High Kings in the top row of my friends.

PLEASE ADD THESE BANNERS TO YOUR PROFILES TO HELP SPREAD THE WORD AND HELP US PROMOTE DARRENDARREN HOLDEN FANSITE BANNER

DARREN HOLDEN OFFICIAL MYSPACE BANNER

Darren has a great video on his Official website www.darrenholden.com It is a wonderful 7 minutes showing clips of Darren singing his own songs, incl the beautiful Through Hell and High Water, and songs from Movin' Out. There's even a little Beatles and Elton John too! Click on the photo link above to take you to that special place! You won't be disappointed! You could even leave him a message on his Guestbook while you are there!
You can buy any of Darren's three solo albums by clicking on the link to his offical website above

Here's Darren singing the US and Canadian National Anthems while taking a break from his role of Pianoman on Movin' Out when the tour was in Toronto. It was just a few days later in Toronto that I saw him perform and met him that first time, I've been a massive fan ever since.....

Bryan Steele was the co-writer of 6 of the songs on Darren's Roadworks album. He also mixed and produced much of it on his laptop in hotel rooms across America as they both toured with the Movin' Out show. Who could believe such a quality album could be recorded and produced that way? Bryan is a very talented singer and musician in his own right. Why not check him out on his own myspace?

So, who do I still want to meet? Well until a few weeks ago, the only name in the frame was BILLY JOEL! But then I was introduced to the music of another young Welsh singer/ songwriter JOSHUA JONES and I would really love to get the opportunity to meet him and hear him sing some of the songs from his wonderful Seize The Day album live. You are probably listening to him now singing now? If you scroll down a little further you can watch and listen to him sing the heartfelt lyrics or Kilimanjaro. It's a song he wrote at 20,000 feet as he climbed to the summit to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis, quite an achievement as Josh is a CF sufferer himself.

I'd still really like to meet Billy Joel. 5 years ago I could have counted the BJ songs I knew on the fingers of one hand, well maybe 2 hands. Then, under the influence of James Fox, I began to appreciate his talent and versatility as a brilliant songwriter, musician and performer. By 10 July 2006, when BJ hit London, I had pretty much collected all of his albums as well as several concert DVD's, and I was heading off to Wembley to see him perform live for myself. 5 years ago I would not even have given a thought to wanting to be there, but by 2006 my not being there was unthinkable! I wasn't disappointed, it was a brilliant show and BJ proved himself to be every bit the legend I had expected him to be (second only to 1!!!)

The easiest category to fill, a very talented Welshman answering to the name of James Fox will take centre stage here!

On 6 April 2008, his birthday, it was a really proud moment for James when his beloved Cardiff City reached the FA Cup Final for the first time in over 80 years. He was already prepared with an cup final song written and recorded before the referee had even blown the whistle to start the Wembley semi final. But when he got the nod from chairman Peter Ridsdale and Bluebirds Flying High was to be the official Cardiff City FA Cup Final song it was the icing on the cake. It was the stuff dreams are made of, getting the opportunity to combine his two passions in life, his music and his love for Cardiff City.

The song reached number 15 in the national singles chart and reached the coverted number one in the Welsh Chart and the UK Indie chart. Cardiff didn’t come home with the cup from Wembley, but to have reached the final was a still a fantastic achievement for everyone concerned. It had been a very special time for everyone in Cardiff and James and the boys did their city proud.

Clips of James whole performance, including the beautiful By The Way, Leave Me Alone, and a lovely rendition of Gone Wrong at the piano.

I hope you enjoyed watching James' performances at The Bedford and The Regal Room as much as I did!

On the 30 July 2007, it was 4 years since James Fox entered the public eye when he when he walked on to our TV screens and sang Don't Dream It's Over. His career has taken him on a wonderful journey since then and I have been lucky enough to share much of it with him. Here are some of the wonderful memories from the first 3 years in pictures.
Volume 1 of the James Fox Story. (Volume 2 follows further down the page)

James can't claim to have written these songs (although he has been known to try on occasions with a cheeky smile and a glint in his eye!) but, he has certainly put his own stamp on them as he performs with his unique voice and style.

ANTHEM
PERFORMED BY JAMES FOX
The Royal Festival of Remembrance 2006 at the RAH in front of the Queen and other members of the royal family. A breathtaking, spine tingling performance, I think very possibly one of his best ever! See for yourself!

Pretty amazing wasn't he? But that wasn't the first appearance at a Remembrance service at the Albert Hall for James. His commitment to performing for the British troops in war zones across the globe had already earned him an invitation back in 2004. This followed the highly acclaimed Remember the Falklands 2004 Combined Services Entertainment (CSE) tour. Here he is!!
'DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER'
PERFORMED BY JAMES FOX.

Who would believe that just 24 hours earier he had been on stage in Oxford performing as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, the reason why he was sporting the long hair and bearded look! A man of many talents!

On the 21 January 2007, the curtain came down for the last time on the US touring production of Movin' Out. It went out on a high, just as it had come in over 3 years ago. A brilliant show!

There have been a number of 'Pianomen' at the helm throughout the run, but these are the guys that were there at the end. James Fox, Matthew Friedman, and the ever present Darren Holden who had been there from the start! Thanks guys!

If you've enjoyed what you've seen here, why not visits James' website, read more about him, check out some more of his music, view over 12, 000 photos, or come and chat on the forum. James is a member himself so you may even be lucky and catch him there when he drops by to leave a message.
