The band began life as a series of tea-fueled writing sessions in West London. Founder members Phil Robinson and Paddy Williams soon came up with some very strong material, and Metro Camel was born.
Remaining true to the home grown nature of their music, Metro Camel began performing acoustically and soon became regulars at London venues such as the Kashmere Klub and The Troubadour.
Mature, melodic and captivating songs led to a solid fan base and on to the studio, where the band began working on what would become Sheer Weight of Traffic. With song writing having been their initial main focus, Metro Camel were able to polish and develop their sound in the studio and the album is an excellent testament to their technical and creative talent.
Co-producing the record with Kenny Jones, influences such as Pink Floyd and Talk Talk temper the bands modern acoustic edge to rival the more contemporary sounds of David Gray and Damian Rice.
