I was born on August 9, 1978 in Beaumont, France. Grew up in Montluçon in central France and I..m the eldest of four children. I have a brother and two sisters.
I started my acting lessons at ..Cours Florent'. In 1998 I won the best young actress award in the ninth ..Jeune Comedien de Cinema Festival' in Bezier. Then...somehow...I came to the attention of Tonie Marshall who gave me a role in her film Vénus beauté (institut). It came as a total surprise to me! I was so certain I could not be chosen that I told her that she probably dialled a wrong number. The director told this in an interviw about me "I chose her for her natural nature: She came, she gaffed, she turned reddish, her ears were in a funny position and her hair was relaxed. In five minutes, she gave me the heart of the character, a petite young girl who would like to be a lady and will become a woman." Funny position of my ears haha!
Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, has been a phenomenal success worldwide and I am truly greatful for that.
I think the funny part is I nearly never got the chance to play the wonderful Amélie Poulain, as director Jean-Pierre Jeunet was considering British actress Emily Watson for the role. But when Emily Watson dropped out, director Jean-Pierre Jeunet cast me after seeing me on a billboard of the movie Vénus beauté in Paris near his home in Bastille. So I guess luck is the word :)
After Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, my sister and I went on a roadtrip in Indonesia where no one recognized me and I got the time to relax for a bit.
Some funny facts about me that you might have heared before are that when I was a bit younger (before I started my career), I was at one time fascinated by monkeys and I wanted to be a primatologist :) Also....it is true that I collect pictures that I take of each reporter who interviews me. I want to have a picture of everyone that passes through my life! I think there..s nothing wrong with that....
MUSIC/BOOKS
I think I..m always with a song in my head :) I like beautiful music that never dies like music composers Ravel, Mozart and Frédéric Chopin. Yann Tiersen, the genious that composed the music for Amelie. He has much more to show than that! I love his music and everything he does. Oh! Also Band Brand New has a song named after me, titled 'Tautou' featured on their album Deja Entendu so naturellement I like them :)My favourite authors are Victor Hugo, Oscar Wilde and Paul Auster.
I love the wonderful poets Charles Baudelaire and Tristan Tzara. And because in my time out I like to paint my inspiration and relaxation comes from Turner, Manet, Schiele, Ingres and Delacroix.
FEED BACK
I am very much interested in your opinions so please leave me a comment about what you think of my work for that. Thank you!
