El Genneyya Bellydancing Troupe

This is a relic, a memento.

About Me

El Genneyya Bellydancing Troupe is no longer a troupe. Ayperi and Misha continue to dance as El Genneyya Bellydance Duo. This profile is merely a memento for past troupe members to enjoy remembering their collaboration and time with El Genneyya Bellydancing Troupe. If you are interested in Ayperi and Misha, El Genneyya Bellydancing Duo, email [email protected] is the history of El Genneyya Bellydancing Troupe:El Genneyya started as a whisper of a smile on Ayperi's lips in February of 2006. After 5 years of volunteer work for the UW Bellydancing Club, Ayperi felt it was time to strike out on her own and create something new for herself. In March of 2006, Ayperi began meeting with different dancers in the Madison community who she respected and admired and with whom she desired to create a troupe. Ayla, Adelah, Tutah, Misha, and others were an integral part of the formation of both Ayperi Bellydance, the business that funded El Genneyya, and the troupe itself. After several individual meetings in coffee houses, kitchens, and Ayperi's office, and a multitude of emails, Ayperi gathered together a group of artists together for the troupe's formational meeting. Niobe, Misha, Rahzel, Rivka, Ayla, Adelah, Tutah, and Ayperi all met on the Terrace one sunny afternoon in the Spring of 2006. Contracts were signed and memberships became official! After months of hard work, the troupe began performing regularly together at the Casbah Restaurant, the UW Bellydancing Club's summer Hafla, Union Terrace's World Music Festival, the Ecclectica Market, Private parties, Reaissance Faires, and at Middle Eastern Dance Showcases all over the midwest. Here are a few photos of El Genneyya's performances at those events: Logo created by Chanel I just LOVE that face! El Genneyya had the happy opportunity to collaborate with the Reptile Palace Orchestra, local Henna artist Jessica Peterson, Al-Khemia music ensemble, Beau Sorenson of Smart Studios, Matt Sorenson (web design), and many other great event organizers, artists, and helpers. There are a variety of reasons that El Genneyya could not continue to exist as it had. Because of the nature of being a college student, many members had to leave El Genneyya to focus on their studies. Many artists also left the troupe in search of individual creative freedom. Some artists returned to their organization after a collaboration had run its course.Ayperi and Misha continue to work together as a bellydance duet, and carry the interests and the spirit of El Genneyya in their hearts and in their dancing.Afterward: All in all though, I, Ayperi, am incredibly glad that I had the experiences working with all of you. I truly enjoyed collaborating with you, and I have learned so much about cooperation and myself from my experiences with El Genneyya. I can only hope that you value your experiences with the troupe as I do mine.Right now, I face the end of something that I truly loved, that I helped to create, that I am so incredibly proud of. In just a few days, El Genneyya Bellydancing Troupe will have our final performance together at the Bristol Renaissance Faire - our biggest gig ever. At this point, it is so bittersweet to me to look back on all our memories together. I am glad that we had them. I'm sorry that some didn't always end well. However, I wouldn't change a thing - I would only have made the troupe's life last a little longer.I hope that you enjoy this profile - I am keeping it up with all its photos as a memento of the troupe and what it taught me.History of El Genneyya written by Ayperi, 8/28/2007I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
