Welcome to the dirt

About Me

'Child Of The Calculator' is multimedia performer Rebecca Smith.
Living with the sublime ugliness of Mansfield Town, she creates multimedia pieces for both live and installation environments, that comment on nothing more than the small world around her.
An unhealthy obsession with decaying urban landscapes, digital blips n' beats and raw turntable manipulation create an interesting fusion of image with sound.
Child Of The Calculator creates live visual performances that combine sharp observable delights with sonic grungery.
With a background in turntablism and multimedia production, Child Of The Calculator pushes the established role of both DJ's and VJ's, splicing them together into a meltling pot of performance jiggery pokery.
Happy to experiement with multiple 3D projection surfaces, her performances can be caught in gallery spaces, night clubs, disused warehouses, theatre spaces and where you least expect them!
Current Touring Pieces:
TIN CAN ALLY - Audio visual performance exploring the scars of the mining industry around North Notts.
ONE HALF OF A WHOLE - Playful audio visual set.
BASH - Turntable based audio visual set.
SWIMMING - Live Visual artist for Swimming signed to Izumi Records
Rebecca currently works as Assistant Artistic Director for Random Line - A forward thinking multimedia performance company, working alongside artists with learning disabilities. Check out www.randomline.co.uk
